Creating a list of your top ten albums of the year should, on the face of it, be relatively easy. The biggest enemy is time. If an album released in February is still much treasured by December there's a fair chance it's going to remain a favourite. An album released only three or four weeks ago is harder to judge. Sometimes no matter how much you think you love something initially, time tells a different tale. I thought there were plenty of great albums, from many new artists, and some from more established acts. The one thing I will say about other '08 lists is that they backlashed really quick against those acclaimed albums of 2008. Generally, the bickering and babbling that coincides with ranking the year's best LPs tend to blur the focus on the overall picture. While some albums directly catered to personal preferences more immensely than others, all the selections emerged amongst the year's best in regards to quality, visibility and of course, durability. Behold fifteen albums deserving of all the accolades and praises heaped upon them throughout the course of 2008. And their value will only solidify going in to 2009. No order. No bias. (Also, when it comes to this list, "non-local" includes everything outside of Washington State, including Portland.) For what it's worth, the number one and two albums are virtually a tie.
