Since most bands and musicians celebrate Record Store Day (which was this past Saturday) it's no surprise that the California duo Best Coast released a tune especially for the occasion, which they called "Fear of My Identity." Seems since the nice weather and Summer months are approaching, we are getting a ton of happy tunes that fit the season. This is what Best Coast has done on the new one, which you can stream below. Oh and singer Bethany Cosentino 's dad is actually a guest drummer. Word. Fresh? [...]

We haven't heard too much from California duo Best Coast lately, but a cover of Roy Orbison 's "Crying" surfaced the other day, which features singer Bethany Cosentino 's cat. But the pair give the 1960's classic an updated lo-fi sound, but still retains that old school feel. Definitely a more relaxing listen than some of the previous posts of today, but it's mid-afternoon here and mellow time is what I need. Listen below. Fresh? Tweet

It's always a great feeling when you randomly discover an artist late in the night that makes you want to listen to more and more of their work. Such is the case with La Sera , the solo project of Katy Goodman , who really reminds me of Best Coast with the vibe going on in her songs. There's a lot of similarities between the two bands, from the female vocals to the fast, upbeat theme in their songs. Please Be My Third Eye is a song from La Sera's most [...]

Sorry for not having the music singles chart last week. It was due to being in Toronto for CMW 2012 . Here is a double bill of the chart. In chart #101, there was no change in the #1 spot but there are debuts of acts that impressed me at CMW. But Cousins spends #1 for the second week. In chart #102, things are changed since the release of the new Japandroids single. I had to make it #1 this week. There are new debuts from Best Coast and Beach House. [...]

mp3 || Best Coast - The Only Place Seems a lot cleaner and crisper. Production wise, a hell of an improvement.New album out May 15th. Pre Order here . f: www.facebook.com/bestcoastyy

How cool is that cover art? The Only Place is Best Coast 's lead single for its upcoming second album, also called The Only Place . Lead singer Bethany Cosentino is at it again in this song with the lyrics being centered around why California is her favorite place on Earth (can't disagree there). The Only Place is really catchy and I instantly liked it on the first listen. Cosentino has a really great voice and as usual, she uses it to her advantage. I'm really excited to for Best [...]

The album these tracks are from ("Crazy For You") is a couple years old at this point (jeebus, when did 2010 become several years ago?), but I'm still giving it pretty regular spins, which is pretty noteworthy because it's not really in my usual wheelhouse. Short, sweet, slacker/stoner surf-punk-pop, this'll get you in a California summer mood, even if spring is taking its time showing up. I'm so excited to welcome back Girls with their second LP, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, ! These eleven tracks of pure sweetness, heaviness, angst, and sensitivity will swoon the ladies and impress the guys. The opening track instantly reminded me of the [...]

A posted a song from the upcoming Wavves EP entitled Life Sux last week and here's another cut from it. Nodding Off is a collaboration between two of the hottest indie bands out there, the aforementioned Wavves and Best Coast . Unfortunately (in my opnion), this song doesn't feature Best Coast or lead singer Bethany Costentino that much, it's mostly Wavves lead singer Nathan Williams and a little backing vocals from Bethany. Oh well. This song is definitely more in the vein of Wavves' previous songs [...]
Today Barry-Sean and I head off, pop up tents in tow, to the marvellous End of the Road festival in lovely Dorset. Once again sold out, last year's inaugural trip turned into the best festival visit we've ever had, and we're looking forward to more of the same over the next few days. Even the weather forecast is good! Once again we have a huge number of superb bands scheduled to play and to follow our free Truck Festival Mix (RiP) and our Wilderness Festival Mix , here's the third and final instalment - [...]

Here are a few tunes that have been floating around Mackerel Towers lately. We have tracks from Best Coast, Sleep Over, Comet Gain, Diva, Argyle Johansen, Bare Wires and Release The Sunbird covering folk, chilled electronica, dreamy pop, garage rock and some high octane guitar riffage. Pick through the bones and take what you fancy. Tweet I stopped following Beast Coast on Twitter a while ago because I was tired of reading about her getting stoned or how awesome her cat was. It's a cat, all cats are awesome! Get over it! Anyway, to celebrate herself almost reaching the 50k follower mark on Twitter she's uploaded a new track called "How They Want Me To Be" in stereotypical Best Coast fashion, reverb-laden harmonies and draped with that drudging cloudy Summer sound. Naturally the [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: The Kills, Best Coast, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Smashing Pumpkins "Viva Voce - The Future Will Destroy You" What's so good? The Future Will Destroy You is the sixth full-length from Portland-via-Alabama couple Kevin and Anita Robinson. According to Vanguard, the duo wrote, performed, produced, and mixed the entire thing. Tough to describe, this is a continued departure from their early sound; to say they’re psych-rock or psych-folk is [...]
Tweet Here's a cute video for "Gone Again" from everyone's favorite stoner-grrrl band. From under the wing of Adult Swim's new music endeavor comes this video of the girls launching dessert items at men tied to stakes. Connect with Best Coast: Facebook | Myspace | Twitter | Website | Last.fm
