J. Michelle Martin-Coyne So what are you doing June 16? Are you one of those so conditioned by years of Toronto Radiohead shows selling out in a heartbeat that you tripped over yourself getting tickets for their Downsview gig as soon as they went on sale, even though the new venue was over twice the size of the Amphitheatre and general admission? Or are you one of those conscious of the fact that this is a King Of Limbs tour and realistically speaking, they probably won't be playing the stuff [...]

Sorry for not having the music singles chart last week. It was due to being in Toronto for CMW 2012 . Here is a double bill of the chart. In chart #101, there was no change in the #1 spot but there are debuts of acts that impressed me at CMW. But Cousins spends #1 for the second week. In chart #102, things are changed since the release of the new Japandroids single. I had to make it #1 this week. There are new debuts from Best Coast and Beach House. [...]

HBO's medieval drama Game Of Thrones premieres April 1, and this season's plot involves five different claims to the throne and these respective factions' ongoing clobbering of one another (#TeamRobb). But, yet another mantle is up for grabs, one that involves absolutely nobody getting their head cut off; the claim to "your album of the summer," a competition that includes many of the 25 albums in our list. While bands like Beach House and Bear In Heaven have already earned their inclusion, many details are just beginning to emerge about many of the [...]

D.L. Anderson It's unlikely bird videos will ever achieve the same degree of online adoration as, say, cat videos, but when said clips come courtesy of artists who push the boundaries of what can be called folk music the way that North Carolina's Bowerbirds and Chicago's Andrew Bird do, a little more attention should be paid. Both artists released their new albums this week - The Clearing and Break It Yourself , respectively - and both have marked the occasion with the [...]

"Born to Lose" is the first single from Sleigh Bells' second album Reign of Terror, out this February. Judging by this single (MP3 inside), listeners can expect the same sort of cheerleader-like vocal chants and voraciously fuzzy guitar riffs found on 2010's Treats, their widely acclaimed debut full-length. Fun stuff as usual
Feathers are a group of four girls from Brisbane creating infectious lo-fi dream-pop. While some of their songs are lively and upbeat, a large number are darker and based on harmony rather than rhythm. Hunter’s Moon is an album full of different moods and well-executed hooks, not to mention some great vocal performances that are

I've been sitting on this playlist some time. I had the general idea of which tracks to include at about the same time as the Nothing To Say Mixtape but I've held off for one reason or another. Stylistically, this is probably my most divergent mix and it matches the conflicted nature that led to its inception. It's pretty heavy on 602s influences and ambiguity though. Well, maybe not ambiguity, but I hadn't really interacted with such feelings for awhile until I was reminded again...call it artistic inspiration. Hope you enjoy it! [...]

Click image to download full album Song: Beach Fossils - Adversity "Beach Fossils - Adversity" What's so good? Somewhat of an atypical sound on today's Song of the Day. Beach Fossils caught my attention when Devin first wrote a review of their EP back in February. The song she featured, "Face It," had a dreamy, twangy sound, and I must say that I quite enjoyed it. As such, I wasn't at all surprised that upon listening to the [...]

"Not considering this opening worthy of more attention, I continued our pursuit to the Northwest, being desirous to embrace the advantages of the prevailing breeze." - George Vancouver, 17th century English explorer Breathtaking describes a lot of things. It's typically a "go-to" adjective for anything remotely awe-inspiring. For Sasquatch! Music Festival , it's the only word that works. There's little room for where it doesn't work, come to think of it. Even the drive in from Seattle, WA is enough to yank tears from the eyes. Driving through the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, [...]
