If there were any show billed as a boys and girl’s night out, it would have been Dum Dum Girls with Crocodiles last Tuesday October 4 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. The audience was pretty mixed with guys [...]

Before the year is out, Friends' Samantha Urbani might become one of the coolest women in pop. Her stars are aligned and the rainbow-clad gods of rhythm like what they see. She’s fun, has a subtle subtext of sexual energy that seems to reel [...]

Without a doubt, Summer Camp 's new video for "Better Off Without You" has a heavy vintage appearance. It contains two screens of cross editing. One side switches from Jeremy attentively making music to clips of rebellious teenagers from an early 802s film. The other follows Elizabeth around as she sassily sings to the camera. Please take a look below. Summer Camp - Better Off Without You Click here to view the embedded video. They will [...]

It's all down hill after July 15th. At least that's how I feel. Sure, the second half of summer is still wide open, but it's always marked by a profound sadness. Usually, this stems from the fact that most (i.e. all) of my goals created at the season's open have not been fulfilled, or even attempted (I realize it's probably hard to sympathize with a person whose melancholia stems from their own sheer laziness. I'm not asking for your pity, I'm just willing to accept it). Anyway, Best Coast have released the perfect anthem for summertime sorrow with "How [...]

Looking at San Francisco's Outside Lands Festival line-up , I feel overwhelmed. There are a ton of awesome bands playing (sometimes at the same time!) over three days, starting with this Friday, August 12. Luckily, being a San Francisco resident, I won't have to travel too far to see some of the crème de la crème of 20112s indie music scene. I recently helped my friends over at Holiday Matinee compile a killer playlist of our favorite songs from musicians playing at the upcoming festival, so I wanted to do a little [...]
Ah, summer. You tease us in fits and spurts with warmth and loveliness and sunshine and mirth. But often too summer steams us to anger, boiling points, frustratio and more. It is at times like that when we need to chill with a pill and a swig and a lick and a promise. And that brings us to Best Coast and the lovely song "Our Deal" which had its official video debut last week. The version below is more to my taste, though, taken at a hot, casual Coachella 2011 midday show, where band [...]

Best Coast shared a new track on their website today, a rough demo of a song called "How they want me to be" . It's one of the better BC songs I have heard, and I hope it won't get messed up when the demo gets recorded properly. You can read Bethany Cosentino own words about the song here , and listen to it via Soundcloud .

Christiana said it best when she described Summer Camp : "With so many bands endlessly attempting to encapsulate the spacey, entrancing, upbeat, synth-soaked music that overtook that decade, Summer Camp has effortlessly (and modestly) leaped right over everyone else." Lo-Fi quand tu nous tiens. Best Coast s'accroche très bien à celle ci, avec son nouveau titre Gone Again , le groupe signe un titre pop illuminé de rayons de soleil. Best Coast - Gone Again

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Wavves, Best Coast, Ty Segall "Sonny & The Sunsets - The Bad Energy From LA Is Killing Me" What's so good? Sonny & The Sunsets were a favorite of mine in 2010 — I couldn't get enough of their 60s-style hand-clapping surf rock. Their new album, Hit After Hit , has the same retro-spirit, with an [...]

Given the crazy influx of surf rock inspired bands lately (Surfer Blood, Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, Tennis), it can be easy to forget that the Danish duo The Raveonettes have basically been making this type of music all along. Throughout their [...]

Anyone who's ever had a crush, but at the same time didn't necessarily like the person they were crushing on can appreciate this album. In fact the first time I heard it, I felt like every girl I dated in high school got together for a slumber party where they ate popcorn and read each other's diaries. Then they ripped out a few pages to take into the booth, where they brushed each other's hair while laying down tracks Given that description (and a little more about my girlfriends back [...]

Click here for more festival info Finally, my type of music festival comes around again: Noise Pop! The type of festival that’s not even really a music festival as we would normally think of it, but a series of small shows clustered over a few short days. And I know what you’re going say about the large music festivals. Sure, sure, Coachella is an amazing desert oasis with a killer lineup, Bonnaroo will inspire an amazing cross country roadtrip, and Sasquatch is the best place to eat mushrooms in the forest while listening to the Decemberists. But I just [...]
With only a year’s separation between releases, Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils wastes no time giving their fans what they want. Dropping February 22 via Captured Tracks, Beach Fossils newest 8-song EP titled What A Pleasure is bound to turn some heads and perk some ears. Judging by the single "Calyer," the EP promises to offer more of the appealing reverb-soaked pop that can be found on their self-titled debut album. If you enjoyed that album's dense guitar riffs, you're going to like this EP. The hauntingly catchy and energetic beats that are looped behind Dustin Payseur’s laidback [...]

This'll be fun." I wasn't totally off the mark - Rolling Blackouts [...]
