We haven't heard too much from California duo Best Coast lately, but a cover of Roy Orbison 's "Crying" surfaced the other day, which features singer Bethany Cosentino 's cat. But the pair give the 1960's classic an updated lo-fi sound, but still retains that old school feel. Best Coast's The Only Place is fast becoming one of the most hotly-anticipated records of the year. This, its first single and title track will do nothing to change that. It's a cleaner, ever-so-slightly poppier take on the fuzz-rock of their debut, with more rounded, shinier production. If that sounds bad, don't worry, it's great.
