If your hard earned money/credit went elsewhere this Record Store Day , the ever-reliable Internet's here for the save with a stream of Best Coast' s latest single, "Fear of My Identity" . It's the band's first new song since last May's The Only Place , and it just so happens to feature Bethany Cosentino’s dad, Ricky, on drums. After an album full of ballads, the group are re-tinkering with the lo-fi aesthetic of 20102s CoS Top Star-rated Crazy For You , forging a romantic power-pop number about Ms. Cosentino's misadventures navigating [...]

Best Coast' s Bethany Cosentino returns once again with her always-lovable Snacks the Cat. Together, the two of them carved out an adorable, lazy cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying". It's everything you'd expect from such ingredients, but hey, that hasn't stopped us from eating pizza, right? Yeah, don't ask - long day, stream below. [soundcloud url=" http://api.soundcloud.com/trac ks/82800809" params="" width=" 100%" height="166" iframe="true" /] In related news, Best Coast has announced the release an exclusive 73 single of "Fear of My Identity" b/w "Who Have I Become" for this year's Record Store Day [...]
Tantalize a Fleetwood Mac fan with news of a tribute album and they'll go a bit soft inside; the 45-year old band has gone through so many permutations of line up, artistic temperaments and internal melodrama that the choices of covers are really quite boundless. Fleetwood Mac, now a quartet since the departure of Christine McVie, havn't released a new studio album since 2003’s rather tepid Say You Will , but, said Stevie Nicks recently, they are likely to tour again in 2013. So the release of A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac seems fortuitously timed, [...]

Following last season's cover of The Zombies' “She’s Not There” by Nick Cave and Neko Case , HBO vampire drama True Blood has now fostered the unlikely pairing of Iggy Pop and Best Coast for an original composition called "Let's Boot and Rally". The song will be featured on the July 8th episode of the show, but you can stream it now at KCRW's website .

As previously reported , producer Randall Poster follows up last year's star-studded Buddy Holly tribute albu m with one dedicated to Fleetwood Mac. Just Tell Me That You Want Me packs 17 "radically reworked versions of well-known (and some more obscure) Fleetwood Mac songs" from the likes of MGMT, St. Vincent, The Kills, Lykke Li, Antony Hegarty, and more. So far, you've heard The New Pornographers' take on "Think About Me” , and now, NPR is streaming Best Coast's rendition of the band's 1975 smash hit, "Rhiannon". Check it [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Ooh Brilliant Growing up in the age of the internet can be quite terrifying, as Best Coast frontwoman Bethany Cosentino can attest. Having spent the early part of her twenties in the indie limelight penning songs about boys, cats and, well, more boys and cats , Cosentino quickly became aware of herself, as a musician and a woman, and knew [...]
Two years after a pair of impressive albums, the two-person bands Beach House and Best Coast are back with follow-up releases. For Best Coast, the album, The Only Places , stretches out from the hazy sound on the band's 2010 debut Crazy for You . Singer Bethany Cosentino sings uptempo country-tinged songs on the slickly produced The Only Places . Jon Brion, who has worked with everyone from Robyn Hitchcock to Kanye to Katy Perry , produced the album. It's a bigger sounding set of songs and at points more enjoyable than Crazy [...]

The Si Claros - 'Diego' I wanna help these folks out by dropping the 'The' from their name. Y'know like in that facebook movie - it'd be way cooler. And speaking of cooler - I'd also love this track to be mixed with a little more punch. It's sweet surf pop for sure but 'Best Coast' pretty much ruled this sound for the last year, which makes this track seem a little too relaxed. But hey, they are from Newcastle so who can blame them. Look forward to hearing the whole record. Free download of [...]

In advance of their sophomore album, Best Coast is offering the single "The Only Place" as a free download. It's a sunny ode to their native California. The album, set to release in May, sounds like it will set the musical tone for a great summer. - Joel Best Coast - "The Only Place"

Here’s the first single to be taken from Best Coast’s much-anticipated new album. It’s called The Only Place and it's the title track of the album. It’s out on May 7 via Wichita . The album follows a week later on May 14.

An appropriate summer jam for the arrival of the nice weather this week, 'The Only Place' is the first single from the album of the same name and an ode to Bethany Cosetino's hometown. Best Coast's second album (see cover and tracklisting below) features production from composer Jon Brion. Time will tell whether it'll be the purported grown up record after Crazy For You's teenage nostalgia but this taster is cleaner, brighter and more widescreen. Tracklisting 1.The Only Place 2. Why I Cry [...]

Californian duo Tashaki Miyaki released their debut 4 track EP on the 31st October of this year. Following the release of a couple of covers, including their brilliantly shadowy version of the Everly Brother's "All I Have to do is Dream", the male-female pairing have released this eerie surf-pop collection of tracks through label The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing. Stand out track ‘Somethin’ Better Than Nothin’ is a stoically forlorn effort, combining wailing reverberations with 60s influenced melodies. Have a listen here...
Finally! I've got something on Nathan Williams! I've actually met Dave Grohl. Twice. Why does this matter you ask? Well, Nathan, and his band, Wavves , just released a new track tonight, "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl," which will appear on the band's Life Sux EP , which hits the stores on September 20th. Honestly, I wasn't entirely convinced of Williams' talent until the last year and a half or so, but he's cleaned up the production, and included great hooks, like those you'll find here. His star was rising [...]
Featuring Donald Glover and Alia Shawkat, the new Drew Barrymore-directed video for “Our Deal” might be the frontrunner for Best Music Video Narrative of 2011.
Peter Wolf Crier finds stylized chaos in "Right Away," Best Coast returns to the beach for "Gone Again" & Mighty Mike goes French pop in mashing the Beatles' "Octopus's Garden."

[In the midst of all other summer festival news, Make Music Pasadena will be the first to follow up Silver Lake Jubilee as a local music outdoor event. They've got a diverse lineup with artists playing in every nook and cranny of the city. Here's a quick preview of three different bands playing on Saturday...] Best Coast , "Gone Again" — Best Coast returns with a new single via Adult Swim, but not much as changed since their breakout album [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music Tim Mosenfelder, WireImage Sticks and stones may break Bethany Cosentino's bones but hateful words just make the Best Coast lead singer laugh. "At this point in my career, I find the haters to be entertaining," Consentino tells Spinner. "I mean, I am who I am." Twitter has arguably helped transform the California singer-songwriter into a quasi-celebrity, with every Tweet constantly getting [...]

There is no denying it, Summer has been and gone - well in Melbourne it kinda never really began but that's another story. As far as festivals are concerned, there is no better way to wrap up the season then at Golden Plains in Victoria. I headed along really excited about catching The Middle East and a few of the big internationals. The physical layout of Golden Plains has been truly finessed. I had no problem arriving and finding a great camping spot in a lush grassy field. So within the hour I was set up and [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , New Music Mexican Summer No Joy can seemingly do no wrong: a wave of hype made the Montreal quartet's debut album, 'Ghost Blonde,' one of last fall's most hotly anticipated records. Its release at the beginning of December was met with a wave of praise from critics. And now the band finds themselves the opening act for the one-two indie-rock punch of Wavves and Best Coast ( Bethany Cosentino [...]
