Though this year is actually the 21st time City Pages has polled Twin Cities music experts to ask them about their favorite new bands, it also marks the 20th anniversary of the very first poll, which

Here are a couple new tracks from my favorite band in Los Angeles. In the past few months FIDLAR has shared the staged with The Growlers, Fucked Up, Japanther, and Davila 666. You can catch them live at the Smell on October 13th and the Troubadour on October 28th. Their next single release "No Waves" is their best track to date. Look for 2012 to be a breakout year for the band. MP3: FIDLAR - Bummed MP3: FIDLAR - No Ass [...]
Pay attention to this label: Bindrune Recordings. They've got a penchant for the dark, atmospheric blackness, lightness and melancholy that seems to go hand in hand with nature, and every release I've heard from them over the past year has been impressive. If you recently discovered Agalloch and find yourself wondering "Where can I find [...]

There isn't really a good place to begin with Sleep Party People . They create creepy, eerie, yet charming music. Ah yes - and they wear bunny masks. I'm not sure if I even understand the lyrics. It's a band from Denmark, and I don't speak Danish, so the lyrics could be in Danish. It could also be some space alien language. This band is just that weird. UK's best new band of 2011, Yuck , were on Jools Holland last week to perform 2 cuts from their debut. Check out the fantastic "Get Away" above. Yuck - "Get Away"
I doubted the Willy Week last year when they picked Sallie Ford over Typhoon, and I ended up eating a lot of crow once I got into Sallie Ford (review of her new album forthcoming, which is amazing, btw). So they've earned the benefit of the doubt based on their track record. I'm not too familiar with a lot of bands on this year's list, because, well, I don't live in Portland anymore. But And And And is their top band this year. They describe them as, "orchestrated version of Wowee Zowee -era Pavement [...]

Every year we like to place a little action on what Portland act the Willamette Week will anoint "Best New Band" for their annual cover story. Of course, BNB is a little absurd-after playing together for five years, I'm sure "new" band Red Fang appreciated their tenth place finish last year-but any excuse to gamble is fine by us. This year we're feeling pretty confident-it's a five-star lock-on what band will win the coveted honor and skyrocket to greatness, or just become as popular as past winners Copy or the [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Unlike last year when it was obviously a close competition between Explode into Colors and Blind Pilot for the top spot, this year's Best New Band poll from the Willy Week had a surprise winner - Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside . I hadn't even heard of them until the poll was released. This year's group seems a bit lackluster compared to last year's class, but that takes nothing away from the winners. Still, given how musically-centered this city is [...]

Typhoon's Kyle Morton (along with a rotating cast of his Typhoon bandmates) was kind enough to keep a diary of the band's recent Western tour with french composer/musician Yann Tiersen. This is the first post in a three-part series. Typhoon plays Friday night at Berbati's Pan for the Best New Bands showcase. As you all know, I had the absolute pleasure of spending an evening with The Dirty Heads - now I'm pleased to present their entire album, Any Port in Any Storm , for an Allie is Wired Listening Party! The beach was their daycare, the garage was their practice room, but The Dirty Heads went from local gigs at bars and small venues to being dubbed one of the "Best [...]
