Too lazy to do much in the way of discussion of this list. Besides, you've likely already read about 300 top-whatever lists. So I'll just say a couple of things. First, this list is, of course, entirely subjective, and simply a list of my favorite albums of 2011. Second, if you haven't heard Quiet Company yet, you're missing a band that has put out two of my favorite albums of the last few years. I have no idea how they're not better known at this point (well, lack of touring has something to [...]
2011 was a down-year for rap beef. It was full of these little mini-tiffs that never went anywhere (Yelawolf v. Machine Gun Kelly) and has-beens trying to hang on (Canibus v. Slaughterhouse and J.Cole). Rappers are slacking: CHRIS BROWN has been in more beef than anybody this year. While I'm glad that the absence of conflict means less senseless violence, I couldn't get at least ONE chair-throwing incident at an awards show? Here's a rundown of Beef 2011. And for 2012? OVOXO Drake sending his supposed goons at Matisyahu at his next show. [...]
There were so many good EPs this year that they deserved their own list, although they easily could have competed with my top spots for albums. Bands, especially new bands, blew me away with their three to four flawless songs time and time again. The fact that these songs aren't getting lost in the shuffle of a mediocre 10 song album made a lot of bands shine brighter than more seasoned groups with LPs out this year. Here's what stood out the most for me. 1. [...]
Although we've come to the end of the road, still Adele we can't let you go. We've reached 2011's closing hour and now it is time: b3sci presents it's Top 50 Albums of 2011. No one's even come close to having the year Adele's had. The most albums sold in a single year since 2004, two of the biggest singles of the year, etc, a truly international breakthrough both commercially and critically on a level we haven't seen in a long time. Adele, our girl, the crown is yours. 21 is b3sci's Album of the year. [...]
24 More Unmissable Records from the Pacific Northwest in 2011
Remember when we said we'd share our list of 25 other unmissable records the first week of January? Whoops. Thing is, the first month of this new year, we were still listening to and falling in (and out) of love with records from 2011. Discovering albums we should've shared months ago and finding out what [...]
Phil's 2011 Live Music Awards
The stuff that dreams are made of... C'mon, you didn't actually think I'd publish my 2011 lists during the actual year of 2011...did you? Now that I have the undivided attention of eight people: Best Show(s) That I Never Saw Lightning Bolt at Healthy Times Fun Club (RIP) Soundgarden/Queens of the Stone Age/Mastodon etc. at the Gorge Pig Destroyer at [...]
Bargain Bin Beauties: My Favorite Finds of 2011
2011 was the year of the record for me. Not a single collection of songs, but rather a physical entity and a format. When 2011 started, my record collection fit in a corner of a bookshelf. As 2011 ends my collection fills three full shelves, three empty boxes of cat food for 45s, organized by [...]

The Daily Choice: San Francisco's Best of 2011
If I can speak in broad blanket statements for a moment, I believe that San Francisco is putting out the best music of any scene in the country right now. I know, I know, you're reading a Seattle-based blog, and I certainly know, my bias is completely out of control as I wake and live [...]

Our Favorite Photos of 2011: Damien Jurado
Damien Jurado ::: photo by Josh Lovseth As we impatiently wait for his new record, Damien Jurado showed Seattle a new side of himself in 2011. Damien Jurado the hype man. Damien Jurado the band leader. Damien Jurado the mystic. These are a couple of our favorite photos of those incarnations. Damien Jurado / "Jacket Summer" [...]
Our Favorite Photos of 2011: Tony Kevin Jr. and Friends at Conor Byrne
Tony Kevin Jr. Practicing ::: photo by Josh Lovseth There's something special about seeing a song being born. To watch it practiced and tested and to then see the final outcome on stage. Seeing songs in their nascent form was one of our favorite parts of Conor Byrne's open mic and this performance with Tony Kevin [...]
