If you are like me, I really only pay attention to the Cyphers from the BET Hip Hop Awards because you not only get to see some of your favorite rappers spit some bars, but even ones you may not be too familiar with. This years pairings were somewhat odd and I didn't think many were that good. I think last year's was the best, but there still were some nice surprises thrown into these Cyphers. Check them out below and let us know who you think was the best/worst. Via Hypetrak [...]

When the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards were taped on September 29, the focus was on the backstage brawls between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy , and between Gunplay and 50 Cent 's G-Unit . But the awards aired Tuesday night (October 9) and we can finally talk about the winners. Namely, Kanye West , who led the field with seven awards (including CD of the Year for Watch The Throne [...]
Does anyone know whether 2 Chainz or Drake won that award? What award? It could be any of them, so it doesn’t really matter, does it? The truth is no [...] The post Watch: The 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards Cyphers appeared first on The Smoking Section .
Last night, BET aired its annual Hip-Hop Awards, and there were a couple of notable moments at the awards show proper. Kendrick Lamar got a solo-star showcase, performing "The Recipe" and "Swimming Pools (Drank)." And as a tribute to the recently-deceased rap-star manager Chris Lighty, a deeply fun and random crew of luminaries showed up for an all-hits medley: A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, old foes Fat Joe and 50 Cent. But the real reason anyone watched the Hip-Hop Awards is the Cyphers, the quick black-and-white shorts in which a ton of different rappers, of [...]

Who didn't see this coming? Apparently BET wants to make sure we're properly excited about this year's Hip-Hop Awards, because they just released three of the cyphers to the web. As you might expect, they don't feature the BIG names, but that doesn't mean they're not worth checking. If nothing else, you'll get introduced to some bubbling talent you might not have heard before, like Tito Lopez and/or K'La. Also, it's really just great to see the Kid Daytona get a look like this. But, wow, did anyone else know there was an even Lil-er Wayne [...]

"I stood up in the paint like a real G supposed to, with five body guards that are trained to kill a human with one finger...I lost my footing, I got right back up, rumbling, rumbling. And then the pepper spray came." -Gunplay As we reported yesterday, Maybach Music Group's Gunplay engaged a member of 50 Cent's entourage in an altercation at this weekend's taping of the BET Hip-Hop awards that ended with the ever-unpredictable Miami rapper allegedly being pepper-sprayed by police. This morning, Gunplay phoned into [...]

As you might have heard, the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards were filmed last night. And as you also might have heard, there were plenty of great and terrible things that happened. Up above, you can see one of the former occurrences, as Fat Joe and 50 Cent put their differences aside to pay their respects to the late Chris Lighty . It's admittedly one of those, "Well, why did it have to take the death of their friend to make them realize their feud was stupid?" situations. But who hasn't been there before, whether it's a friend, [...]

On a day of what was meant to be celebrations, unfortunately it just wasn't possible for this to happen. Despite 50 Cent and Fat Joe seemingly settling a long running issue with eachother, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy just couldn't help themselves. Sources claimed that Rick Ross and Young Jeezy got into fisty cuffs backstage. Words were exchanged between the rival crews as they passed eachother, including security teams and entourage members. This ultimately lead to a scuffle between the two crews. DJ Drama was in [...]

Last night saw the BET Hip Hop Awards hit Atlanta's Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. It's been a bit of a controversial event apparently, with celebrations, a truce being made with 50 Cent and Fat Joe (finally!) and a bit of a to-do between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy. The red carpet was adorned by the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Miguel, T.I., 50 Cent, Meek Mill, Wale, MGK, French Montana, Childish Gambino, Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar, and Stalley, and of course many many more, showing their iconic styles on the red carpet. The awards ceremony was filmed yesterday [...]
Well, I think it's time for me to admit that I was wrong . I'm not going to be completely disappointed by the cyphers at the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards, which take place Oct. 9. Peep the full lineup below—I've underlined the MCs I'm most intrigued by—and be sure to check out the West Coast cypher preview here . I just wish they lumped everyone together [...]
