Here's something to listen to while you're packing for Coachella: a brand new DFA1979 remix from UK talent, Stopmakingme . This gorgeously understated take on "Black History Month" builds like a scratch you can't itch until a righteously rad baseline drops. It sounds like Stopmakingme tore a page out of Tiga's book to help him create this minimal masterpiece. Hopefully it was made recently because it'd be a crime if it wasn't included on the DFA remix comp.
Is anyone as excited as us about the return of Melanie Fiona. This is the first single off of her sophomore album. It's a love ballad in a music era that loathes ballads, commercially speaking. Well, let's hope for the best. Something tells us that she has a very strong second single. We've been inundated with still images of the downfall of human civilization for the last month, but now we get moving pictures. Rejoice. Now we get a trailer to the movie your third baby mamma has been anticipating for months, Madea's Big Happy Family . The trailer doesn't disappoint. We open with either Amos or Andy asking for a grown man in dressed as a woman to hold him. He's, of course, slapped by his cross-dressing lover. Of course, soon thereafter, there's the obligatory baby-mama-holding-the-baby scene that [...]

Don't worry, Blake. We know you had nothing to do with this. To laugh or to be insulted? That is the question. I'm just going to get off my high horse, have a good chuckle and leave the societal implications to someone else. It's a lot easier to laugh at Donald Sterling's ignorance anyway. Keep in mind, this was the same owner who attended Clippers games to heckle his own (former) player Baron Davis - who he signed to a $60M contract - and had to pay damn near $3M for a [...]
Toronto - It's February. A month that is known for many things - Valentines, Groundhog day, Super Bowl, read-in week, etc. For a lot of people, one thing towers above all of this - Black History Month . We here at the Panic Manual, much like all our fellow (North) Americans celebrate this monumental event. The brain trust at this site has thought long and hard, and in turn, come up with a playlist of ten songs that we feel fully highlights the word black. Before we get to that, we would just like to share some things about [...]
Feb 1: 107: Dig It – Sophia Ramos (dedicated to Billy Preston) Many have claimed to be the 5th Beatle but there is one man however who was employed to by The Beatles themselves to fulfill that role.. That man was Billy Preston. Born a full 18 years before the repeal of The Jim Crow [...]

Ever since Death From Above 1979 was announced for Coachella, the blogosphere has been suffering from some DFA fever. For reasons unknown, I had been holding out on doing a post for this great band. Well the time has come and this is a great remix of an old favorite, "Black History Month". Please indulge. Don't you just hate it when someone has a genius idea that you wish you'd thought of first? One so painstakingly obvious - and at the same time so elegantly brilliant - that you know that you could have had it? Well, that's exactly how we currently feel after seeing Metal Injection's quite frankly why-didn't-anyone-think-of-thi s-before idea that [...]
WKNC welcomed public affairs director Chris Cioffi as the new host of "Eye on the Triangle" in this first episode of the spring semester and 2011. Assistant public affairs director Mark Herring took a trip to the North Carolina Museum of Art to learn more about Norman Rockwell. A portion of the Rockwell exhibition includes images that Rockwell created towards the end of his life. Many of these images deal with the civil rights movement, and we felt it be a timely story the day after the commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. [...]

The only sure things in life are death and taxes. For black folk add, higher odds that you'll be shot by the police under dubious circumstances and that privileged white college kids will mock you with demeaning and racist minstrel or costume parties. Wow. If you thought Late Night With Jimmy Fallon itself was bad, how about this unsettling lunch menu NBC offer(ed) 'in honor of' of Black History Month? Questlove obviously didn't think too highly of it, as he TwitPic'ed the snapshot on @questlove , while pointing a big, black finger at NBC's Public Relations department, who immediately issued a retraction . I bet Popeyes is pissed they lost a whole month of catering.
