Black Moth Super Rainbow FAR surpassed their initial Kickstarter Project goal recently (raising about $80k MORE than their goal). Last week, they released this remix from Odd Nosdam (Anticon / cLOUDDEAD / Reaching Quiet), which completely flips the vibe on this, and I love it. Some new visuals for the new Black Moth Super Rainbow single, "Windshield Smasher." This is definitely one of the more entertaining videos I've seen this year, and that's mostly due to its absurdity. A unsuspecting couple runs up on a group of BMSR mask-wearing baddies who torture them when the couple realities against the group robbing their vehicle. The "torture" is where things get hilarious. Here's a poppy, trippy number from Black Moth Super Rainbow. "Windshield Smasher" will presumably be on their upcoming album, Cobra Juicy , the band's fifth. It's their first full length album since 20092s Eating Us , and it is highly anticipated by 100 percent of Paul DeBenedettos working at AudioCred. Cobra Juicy is expected to come out in October, according to the band's Kickstarter account .
Kicking off with an intro straight out of jock jams, Black Moth Super Rainbow weave in rhythm, melody, and a great story about wrecking cars in their new track, "Windshield Smasher". I caught Tobacco's DJ set at the Low End Theory a few weeks back. The one-liner that popped into my head was a UFO burning down a Gingerbread house while the witch chants outside. There is an alien and sinister quality to the vocoder wails and an inherent sugary grit to the melodies. This is why they are one of my favorite bands. They can achieve hell and heaven in the same bar. That sounds a little melodramatic. Wind it back: they also sound really good when you're high, even if Tobacco doesn't smoke the wackiest strain of his namesake. [...]
Black Moth Super Rainbow 's Dandelion Gum , their 2007 junior effort, blew my mind. That album was filled with textures unknown to even be made in music. Baffled, I listened on to the rest of their body of work, and I was enthralled. The experimentation and soundscapes that were brought out were mind-blowing.
