The EMPT secret weapon Steph Lund reminded me of a great but highly overlooked Bloc Party track called Your Visits Are Getting Shorter . The track is from Bloc Party’s third album Intimacy and is probably so neglected because it was released as a bonus track in the digital release of the album. Nevertheless, its actually one of the stronger tracks from the work and certainly worth a few listens. I’ve had it on repeat for the last 30 minutes or so. [...]

Heartsrevolution & Spank Rock - Ultraviolence I have quite a few years of being an electronic music fan, and the general consensus is this: dropping a Spank Rock verse or two over an illy beat like "Ultraviolence" computes only one outcome: awesomeness . Which is defined as 'the quality of being awesome' or the quality of being highly enjoyable, and this is it. So double KU-dos to Heartsrevolution - whose PMA-cherries I have just popped - for snapping up this nifty track for us so we can all bask in its awesomeness. [...]
Foals , a band it seems we cannot stop thinking/blabbering about lately, are set for higher marks this coming April as they've been pegged by the boys from Bloc Party as openers on two back-to-back nights at the Olympia in London. The shows are April 11 and 12, the first of which is totally sold out right now. The guys are also slated to appear at the All Tomorrow's Parties weekend fest in May. And lastly, disco-fied newblood duo The 9000 just completed a really remarkable remix of "Electric Bloom", which you should be [...]

(photo: Myspace) One of my favourite stories from 2008 as been the success of an artist whose made his name by playing around with other people's music. Telemitry is the remix master who made Bloc Party's "Mercury" cool, and gave Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" an extension on its expiration date. As much as Vampire Weekend's success can be directly linked to being a blog band, so too can Telemirtry's. As a direct result of his remixes being shared by blogs in 2008, he's scored some legitimate work as a remixer, [...]

Bloc Party recently dropped by BBC Radio 1 to promote their new single, ' One Month Off '. While there the band played a cover of Girls Aloud 's ' Call The Shots '. You can hear the cover song below. Bloc Party ' Call The Shots ' ( Girls Aloud cover)

Bloc Party stopped by BBC's Radio 1 to drop their new single ("One Month Off") and covered Girl Aloud's "Call The Shots" while they were at it. This isn't the first time Bloc Party cover a guilty pop pleasure of theirs. In 2007 they covered Nelly Furtado's wonderful "Say It Right." I love it when bands go out of their comfort zones and cover something entirely different. The cover doesn't even have to be good, just different and passionate. Bloc Party always deliver with their unusually fitting covers. Related [...]

It's scary to think that just a month ago I was on the banks of the Thames watching 2009 roll in with some great fireworks and friends. One of the songs that I loved the most was Passion Pit 's "Sleepyhead" (pictured top). Since then I've been slowly falling in love with their US electro jams. Think Hot Chip, but not as repetitive. Ohhh yes. They're currently recording an album, and Fader had a great piece recently about their new album , and footage of them recording with [...]
The not-so-big secret at Pageant shows is that the opening acts are often just as worthy as the headliners. Les Claypool bringing along Saul Williams and DeVotchKa on March 17 is one example of this -... Continue reading "Opening Acts to See: Longwave and Joan Jones of Sun 60" >

( this photo had this orientation so we left it alone ) Lapse is nothing more than what Hipster Runoff would call an "altBro" from South Africa who likes to get behind the turntables and throw down bangers at parties. The problem is, of course, that we'd write him off immediately just for that if his treatments--in this case of Bloc Party and Moulinex & Xinobi --weren't so screamingly good. Their guaranteed to be clubby-as-fuck and remarkably, even though much of both of the tunes are lessons in [...]

Russell and Matt from Bloc Party stopped by Webster Hall on Friday night to throw down a set of awesome banger faves circa 2001-2007. The downstairs Trash! party (truly a wild success of the last few months because of the venue change) also featured a live set by Shiragirl , who we've pumped on this site before for their anthemic, grrl-ish, pop-punk songs. It was a lot of fun and a ton of our friends were there, dancing their shit sweaty all night. (mp3) Bloc Party - Flux (Clockwork remix) [...]

1. Vampire Weekend by Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend is a band that’s easy to pick on, but it’s hard to find fault in a record that’s so dud-free and outright fun. It may not be high art, but I promise this album will be listened to for a long time to come. (Previously reviewed here .) Vampire Weekend: Oxford Comma (mp3) (buy) 2. 808s & [...]

It has now been about 9 days since 2008 is over. It is time for my top albums of 2008. It was a great year in music for me personally. I thought there were plenty of great albums, from many new artists, and some from more established acts. The one thing I will say about other '08 lists is that they backlashed really quick against those acclaimed albums of 2008. You see I enjoyed those albums just as much as before and after the over hype. So I don't see the need for that. You liked the album or you [...]

I always wanted to make a best list and see if I actually had the patience and motivation to do one. It never came but now since I have this blog I finally stopped being lazy and tried to put some form of list together. I didn't start my blog until late July and didn't realize I would need to track my songs. I didn't do it by play count since I usually tend to overplay songs when they first come out, before concerts, with friends etc. If I based it on play count it would basically be Vampire Weekend, [...]

Bloc Party have announced a show at Terminal 5 in New York set for next year. The Terminal 5 gig is set to take place on March 24 and will be preceded by a string of Canadian dates. The New York show will be followed by an appearance at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, FL on March 27 and 28. Bloc Party Dates: Toronto, [...]

It's been a pretty amazing year for music around the UK, and following on from my top 10 of 2007 , here is my top 10 of 2008. 10 - Viva Stereo - Roar Lion Roar You've probably not heard much about this Scottish collective. However, their third album was a surprise favourite for me - anthemic, accessible, slightly My Bloody Valentine and yet still so gorgeous. Read more about Viva Stereo here . Favourite: Knee High Boots . [...]

Stereogum and team9 have teamed up for a third year in a row to bring us their MySplice III mashup compilation. The mix includes 2008 blog staples like Bloc Party, Lykke Le, of Montreal, Beck, and Crystal Castles mashed with 2008's ineluctable pop hits (Britney Spears, Rihanna, Kanye, Katy Perry). Oh, and they through in some oldies as well (Cyndi Lauper, Guns N' Roses, etc). I don't know if you guys feel it too, but I can't help but think this is the best MySplice yet. Stream the whole thing here, [...]
