There are few things that the Internet loves more than cute kids and cute kittens. Frenchkiss Records decided to exploit all of these weaknesses and more in some capacity with the release of the official trailer for their new YouTube channel, FKR.TV. This new venture is a partnership between Syd ...

Thanks To Camilo for this great artwork. Looking back at 2012, there were plenty of albums that I loved. Was it the best year of music in recent memory? Maybe not, but it was a damn good year in its own right. There is a lot that we may look back on and remember well into the rest of the decade. This year I listed my Top 40 albums, as well as a few honorable mentions that were as close to making my list as they come. I didn't get to listen [...]
It's that time at last! Triple J Hottest 100 voting has opened. For those that don't let their musical intelligence be insulted by Triple J, this year promises to be another hard slog at getting those 10 tracks perfectly right, so that you can just tick them off as they come up one by one on the 26th January. Well... at least that's what it used to be like. It's been only 10 years ago now, that Queens of the Stone Age held the number 1 spot with their mental track "No One Knows", and only five years [...]
I know that December tends to be a time to purchase gifts for friends and family members. But Shopping kind of sucks. Instead, go to a show? Thursday, December 6th El Gavachillo, Regimen Sinaloense at Elbo Room El Gavachillo is a side project of Wil-Dog from Ozomatli. It's a band that does classic punk covers [...]

It's been three plus days since Outside Lands came to an end and i've needed every minute of it to fully recover. This was my first legitimate music festival and it was a lot to take in. With that said, I would do it all over again this weekend if I could. I had so much fun last weekend, not even the total lack of sleep, the nightly struggles of finding my way home, the $9 beers, or the bird that shat in my eye Friday night will keep me [...]

photo by Josh Bis As promised, Benjamin Gibbard will support his forthcoming solo debut, Forever Lives (out October 16th through Barsuk), with a brief solo tour this fall. Gibbard, who is currently playing shows in Japan with Death Cab For Cutie, will start the tour in Big Sur, CA on September 26th and cover the eastern United States before finishing up the trek with a pair of Californian dates in November. Northwestern dates are soon to be announced. Pre-sales for members of the Death Cab For [...]
In all my years as a festie, I've never been to a festival where gloves seemed like a perfectly sound idea. But San Francisco defies the logic of California (as comedian Marcus Monroe put it, "It's summer, so tell your fucking city that"), with cool days and downright cold evenings. Still, the City by the Bay plays one hell of a host. Coming from Boston, the honest politeness of the people here was shockingly apparent from the moment I stepped onto the BART. With sunny skies above, it was a warm welcome to the weekend ahead. Of course, [...]
Stereogum Over the weekend, thousands of fans flocked to this year's Outside Lands at Golden Gate Park. Overcast and chilly weather was offset by the fire from the Metallica pyrotechnics and warm vibes from festival attendees. Neil Young & Crazy Horse turned up their guitars to close out Friday, Metallica blew everyone away with their hellfire on Saturday, and Stevie Wonder dazzled with his barrage of hits to on Sunday. Some of the other highlights included Jack White's impromptu set in the midst of the trees, [...]

It was one of the few dates for Passion Pit this month after they cancelled much of their tour. Exclaim caught their set and wrote: Leadoff "Take a Walk" set Angelakos in motion, his [...]
After three days of music, madness, heat, sweat, hurricanes, hail and hot dogs without ketchup, I’m proud to say that I survived Lollapalooza 2012. This year’s Lollapalooza was truly one for the record books. There was an estimate of 100,000 people that came from all over the world to cover ...

Frank Yang You may have noticed my first two dispatches from Osheaga dwelled a bit on the hot, humid weather - this was partly because it was one of the defining factors of the weekend and certainly affected mine and everyone else's experience, but also for some context. Because for the third and final day of the festival, things went from just hot to hot and wet - great adjectives for search engine optimization, not so great for spending the day outside. Indeed, the same storm system that shut down Lollapalooza [...]
Kicking off its fifth year, the Outside Lands Festival 2012 takes place this weekend in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Headliners include a number of music's biggest names, such as Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Metallica, The Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Beck, and Andrew Bird, among others. There are also plenty of other [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
![[Outside Lands 2012] Top Five Songs We Can't Wait to Hear Live](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4439919_lg.jpg)
This Friday marks the beginning of this year's Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, the fifth edition of the cultural highlight. SKOA will be attending the festival this year, and each day leading up to the festival we will be dishing out a feature focused on the bands set to appear at Outside Lands. Today, our spotlight is focused on the top five songs we cannot wait to hear live at the festival. No matter how good a band's repertoire is, [...]

For the eighth time in a row, Lollapalooza returned to Chicago's Grant Park. While the festival has received its share of rain over the years (e.g. Billy Idol's mesmerizing sun shower set in 2005, The Gaslight Anthem's downpour debut in 2009, Best Coast's muddy power hour in 2011, to name a few), the grounds have never had to shut down . Yet with recent catastrophes at festivals worldwide, management took no chances and they made the right choice. Only three hours were ultimately lost and in those three hours something wild happened - there was a sense [...]
