After Bloc Party went mum for a couple years and vocalist/guitarist Kele Okereke began focusing on his solo work, many thought the band was essentially over. But they dispelled those notions when they revealed they'd be releasing an album this year. Earlier in the month we heard “Octopus” from their forthcoming album Four . This weekend, they revealed another track entitled “Day Four.” While “Octopus” is more along the lines of A Weekend in the City , “Day Four” brings the band back to their original roots, the classic Silent Alarm . It’s a [...]
Bloc Party just couldn’t help themselves. After a debut record that was nothing less than invigorating, their ventures into nu-rave, electro, and doing some really weird things to Kele Okereke’s voice exposed a band eager to move forward, but unsure of what direction to take. Coming off a four year absence, it seems these guys have allowed themselves to take a deep breath, a step back, and grow up a bit. “Octopus,” the lead single from the upcoming Four , reveals a mellower sound, ditching serrated guitar chords and sound pedal trial-and-error for something less confrontational. When 'That Girl That Boy' came out I thought it was possibly the most amazing track I had heard to date. Looking back, I may have been caught up in the fact it is the most energetic track I had ever heard. Since then, they have lost all credibility in my books. I havn't enjoyed a single other one of their songs I'v heard. They seem watered down and set for the commercial world which is a shame. I also reckon they missed their window of opportunity. When the scenesters were loving the new rave, Hadouken! were living it. Since [...]
The Good: Department Of Eagles - "No One Does It Like You"; I may just be the last blogger on the face of the planet to post this track, but when you have a tune this good it doesn't really matter when you hear it so long as you hear it. Some of you may already realize that this band is a side project for Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear, but what you may not know is that this track kicks some

Seeing as both of them have new music out at the moment and they have done a collaboration, I thought it was fitting to put them in the post. Bloc Party's 'Mercury' is finally out having entered the blogosphere ages ago, and still I think it's crap. It's a poor mans 'Flux'. Am I the only one that thinks that? However, Mike Skinner has surprised me by making a single which is The Streets exactly how I love them/him. I was expecting some average song with a dreadful chorus of the Brummie singing, but the tried and tested formula that [...]
