I haven't done one of these posts in a while, but there's probably no better way to get it out there than saying it on here. Myself and my good friend Michael have started up a football blog concerned with all things Irish. Greenscene.me focuses on Irish players playing in England and Scotland as well [...]
Not quite a Blogs What I Like feature, but close enough. You're already probably an avid Drowned in Sound reader, and probably haven't failed to notice the new column in town. Niall Byrne, the curator of Ireland's Annual Best Music Blog nialler9 , has started a new in-depth feature on Drowned in Sound. It's called Drowned in Dublin , and features all the best new Irish music from the likes of the bigger names such as Heathers and Villagers, as well as collectives such as Popical Island and the Richter [...]

This is just a brief interruption to regular programming to point you in the direction of some other things I've been up to recently. Tomorrow night the 2010 Irish Blog Awards will take place in Galway, I've been nominated for Best Music Blog, against some worthy opponents: Nialler9 , Torture Garden , Faith No More 2.0 , and Goldenplec . Good luck to all the nominees. Also nominated for Best Pop Culture Blog is Culch.ie , where I've been known to hang out, writing book, television, and gaming news/reviews [...]

Niall Byrne aka Nialler9 writes a regular column in the Irish Independent's Day & Night section. He also has a blog to go with it. Today, the Sound of 2010 list written by myself and Peter over at 2UIBestow was featured. In addition to this, there's also a large number of other bands tipped for the top, with links to many lists. Check them all out here: http://dayandnightmag.ie/2010/ 01/15/new-bands-to-watch-in-20 10/ and have a look at State.ie's tips here: http://www.state.ie/category/f aces-of-2010/ The magazine has come a [...]

For my 1000th post I listed the best Irish albums of all time, and as a special celebration for my 1500th, I'm now going to list my favourite Irish Music Blogs. And on what better day to celebrate it than the day teh nominations open for the 2010 Irish Blog Awards . Obviously my own is my favourite, but apart from that... (In alphabetical order) 2UIBestow Run by the lovely Peter Nagle, this is one of Ireland's most underrated Music Blogs. He knows everything [...]
He's got some fine choices on there, but props to selecting The Holy Roman Army. An excellent album from some fellow Carlovians. It's the best thing to come out of Carlow this year until today, when the M9 opens between Carlow and Kilcullen! Anyhow, check out Nialler9's list here: http://www.nialler9.com/2009/1 2/21/nialler9s-albums-2009/ I'm not going to spoil it for you. (P.S. He has downloads of mp3s from each of the top twenty - nice!)

Once again Nialler9 is running his readers' vote for the best Irish Albums and Irish Songs of the year. Super Extra Bonus Party won in 2007 and Jape in 2008 for their albums, but what will top the list this year? You can help decide! All you need to do is leave a comment on his blog listing your top 3 or more albums and top 3 or more songs released by Irish artists this year. Easy peasy! Here's how the poll works: 1. You can pick up to 10 Irish albums and [...]
Simply put, Simply Zesty is one of the best blogs in Ireland. It may well be the best. Actually, it's one of the best blogs worldwide. If you're anyway interested in social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), blogging, search engines, or actually getting more from your internet experience, then this is the blog for you. Simply Zesty is an Online PR & Social Media company, but one with a marvellous front-end to back up a similarly stellar back-end. They have many clients including telecomunications giants Vodafone, and will be running a "Future of Social Media" Conference next month. They [...]
I like I Love Charts. In fact I love I Love Charts. It's a fantastic site, and although some of this has been done before, these guys collect everything. It's a fantastic tumblr blog, and shows how to do it right (like Garfield Minus Garfield). Some of them are pretty basic like the one above, and then some are exceptionally well done. But all of them are interesting. And some are downright geeky: Check [...]
Back when TwoWayMonologues was a fully-fledged review website (with fancy features and all), I used to write reviews for them (most of them behind the deadline, as Dan will tell you). They've since redesigned and relaunched as a wonderful Canadian music blog, alongside the interesting Minilogues - a tremendous idea where bands are filmed performing in unconventional locations. Check them both out here: http://www.twowaymonologues.co m/ http://minilogues.com/ And here's a minilogue of the Schomberg Fair:
As you should know by now, next Tuesday marks the release of the remastered version of every single Beatles album. But you can buy them all together in one super-deluxe package. It looks amazing. Santa, I want! The stereo box set will be retailing at approximately €250 with the mono box set retailing at approximately €300. The following are the album lists for each set. The Mono Albums are only available as part of a set, but the Stereo ones can be bought separately The Stereo Albums Please Please Me With The [...]
My first ever post as a contributor to Culch.ie, I'll be doing a weekly book column on Tuesdays over there. Check it out here: http://www.culch.ie/2009/06/17 /broken-spine-1/
Aoife from Sweet Oblivion Music always has great interviewees and great interviews. The latest of which is Groom, an Irish band that I've told you about on more than one occasion. Now you can see/read what the band have to say themselves. Check it out here: http://sweetoblivionlovesmusic .blogspot.com/
2uIBestow has a great post about the party at Whelan's for their 20th Birthday (or Anniversary) here: http://2uibestow.blogspot.com/ 2009/04/whelans-20-years-of-li ve-music.html He's got some excellent videos and downloads for you, plus a link to download some bootlegs, one of which is Béla Fleck and the Flecktones from 2002. I saw these guys supporting Dave Matthews Band in Randall's Island New York a few years back, and they blew me away. Download the full Whelan's show here: http://www.archive.org/details /bfft2002-11-18.shnf Sample: Béla Fleck and the Flecktones - 'Cheeseballs [...]
Jim Carroll and co. over at the Ticket have made a list of their top 50 Irish acts on the scene currently. There were three qualifying conditions. (1) Solo acts had to have been born on the island of Ireland or to hold an Irish passport. (2) In the case of bands, half or more of the members had to have been born on the island of Ireland or to hold an Irish passport. (3) Bands had to have recorded or released music since January 2008, or to have played a gig since January 2008. You [...]

Not only has he released one of the EPs of the Year, but Tenaka aka Ronan has launched a blog. And it's not the usual band blogs which are self-loving, this one is interesting and talks about what he's listening to as well as the dreaded cracked laptop screen. A great insight into the life of a brilliant upcoming musician. Check it out here: http://tenakadrifting.blogspot .com/

Best use of the internet I've seen in ages: Niall Harbison's fantastic Twecipe website which creates recipes for you from the leftovers in your fridge. Just send @twecipe your ingredients, and wait for a recipe. Simple. It's like Ready Steady Cook without Ainslie! Check out the website here: http://twecipe.com/ And follow, tweet here: @twecipe

Why do I like it? Loads of pics of her and David Ryan Adams - to whom she's now engaged, or so says Perez! The blog itself is interesting enough, and shows her going places with him as well as recording her new album. The album is due in May and will be called Amanda Leigh . Confirmed tracks for the album are "Everblue", "Nothing Everything", "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week", and "Song About Home". It'll be good too, you mark my words. Check out her photoblog here: http://mandymoore.typepad.com/
I'm a big fan of online comics. I used to waste so much time in work looking at them instead of being productive. XKCD, PBF, anything with initials usually does it for me. But one that has been brought to my attention recently, is the excellently-drawn Road Crew Comic. It's updated 5 times a week (a bit like this blog), and is all about music. Check it out here: http://roadcrewcomic.com/ And the archives here: http://www.roadcrewcomic.com/? page_id=40

Lego a day. Oh God I love Lego. I even got Lego for Christmas from my brother. The Batmobile. Fuck yeah! Anyhow, this guy (Dan, a really nice guy - he's beaten me in photography competitions before) takes a photo of a legoman each day. Brings me back: http://legomyphoto.wordpress.c om/
