To get you in the mood for JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound 's record release show tonight at the Double Door, we've found this tasty clip of the band adding a dash of soul to everyone's morning on ABC-7's " Windy City Live " earlier this week. The Uptown Sound banged out a fresh performance of "Everything Will Be Fine" and then gave a brief interview with host Val Warner about the group's influences and how they got together. The Want More release party kicks off at 8 p.m. with performances by [...]

When someone tells me that everything will be fine, I am inclined to not believe it. However, snappy soul rockers JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound feel like pretty trustworthy fellows. Their new single "Everything Will Be Fine" is big and upbeat enough to put some real swagger in your step with its groovy key strokes, twangy guitar licks, and thumping rhythm section. As always the track is the perfect showcase for Brooks' smoky, theatrical howls. Listen here . JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound's [...]
Not exactly a CD release party for a CD that's been available to purchase both physically and digitally for a few weeks, Lydia Loveless plays Columbus on Saturday night for the first time since her badass twang-rocker Indestructible Machine was released by Bloodshot Records on September 13. While Josh Krajcik put Columbus in the national spotlight due to his 7-minutes (so far) of fame on the X-Factor (one of Loveless's first shows was with Krajcik), glowing reviews have been piling up for Loveless, [...]
Get ready fans of Chicago soul. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound have announced their Bloodshot Records debut, titled Want More , is set to be released on Tuesday, October 25. The record is the Chicago nu-soul outfit's first full length release in two years. According to a press release, the 11-track LP is a "sweat-filled house party," which finds the band stretching their sound to garage rock territory and R&B balladry. And if you're like me and know what a live force [...]
One of our favorite labels, Bloodshot Records , recently released their fall sampler. Like their past samplers it's free (well, it'll cost you your email address) to download. The collection has plenty of 9B familiars such as Ha Ha Tonka and Whitey Morgan and it even contains a brand new track from the upcoming Scott H. Biram album, Bad Ingredients . So press play below and let Bloodshot help you get over your Monday morning sobers. Track Listing: [...]

Bloodshot Records has been on something of a roll as of late with releases from the likes of The Bottle Rockets and the Dex Romweber Duo, but the release that has left me the most slackjawed is the latest from Lydia Loveless , Indestructible Machine . You would be forgiven for not being familiar with Ms. Loveless, and given her handle, you might even be forgiven for assuming she was a...ahem...performer in the adult entertainment industry. But rest assured, although she deals with very adult themes, the 21 year-old Columbus [...]

The Bottle Rockets have amassed an impressive collection of rockin' albums over their near twenty years of making records, for this album the plug's are pulled for an MTV style session recorded at the 19th century Lucas School House in St. Louis which has been converted into concert venue. The band play through a choice song set and as is often the case with stripped back recordings there's a heightening of the listeners concentration on the writing and a fresh appreciation of the music and song craft, impressive stuff it's an immersive listen and comes highly recommended. [...]

Just yesterday morning I was dumping some coffee down the hatch to the strains of Not So Loud: An Acoustic Evening With The Bottle Rockets and wishing I could a share a track or two with MOKB readers. Well, lo and behold, the fine folks at Bloodshot Records must have sensed my bad intentions, as no more than a few clicks of the clock later and we had an unsolicited blessing for a download and a stream. Hopefully you're familiar with The Bottle Rockets [...]

the bottle rockets , a band i should listen to more often, but sadly i dont. every time i listen to em, mainly my two faves the brooklyn side and brand new year, i love em long time and then ask myself "why dont i listen to these guys more often?" a question, i have no answer for except pure laziness, i suppose? either way, next week bloodshot records is releasing not so loud: an acoustic evening with... which was recorded in a 19th century school house and pulls from the best from what is a [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. He won't stop calling and I'm not sure how to blow him off He stands outside my window until I have to call the cops But they always let him out of jail cuz he's a famous face That's a funny way of asking me to go out on a date... Steve Earle, won't stop calling me Lydia Loveless's Comfest set was one of my favorites, and new song "Steve Earle" was a set highlight. It'll [...]
In an effort to celebrate our wonderful country whilst cleaning out our inbox, we'd like to share some tracks that we either wrongfully neglected or simply forgot to give to you. So to rectify this and simultaneously give you a soundtrack to blow things up with, here's a small mix for your holiday! For King [...]

Bloodshot Records have announced the signing of locals JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound . While this signing may not stack up to say, Derrick Rose signing with the Bulls, it is vaguely similar in that both the band and the label are straight products of Chicago. And that's always a good thing, right? Anyway, if you're new to JC Brooks & The Uptown sound, then you obviously don't get out much. Their punky take on classic soul and Motown has kept Chicagoans groovin' for more than four years. [...]

It was only a matter of time before this signing took place. If you have ever heard the vintage sounds of JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound you know why the new partnership with Bloodshot Records is very fitting. The band will release their Bloodshot Records debut album,Want More, later this fall. The band will be performing on June 16th at Ravina with Robert Plant & The Band of Joy, and at The Taste of Randolph Street on June 18th at 5pm.
ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO myspace the facebook last.fm Castanets [mp3] This track comes from the compilation No One Got Hurt: Bloodshot's 15th Anniversary @ The Hideout Block Party. "Escovedo pays further homage to Bloodshot's proud heritage with his signature tune, 'Castanets,' mentioning he always dedicates it to Joe Strummer (punk's patron saint), 'but tonight it'll go [...]
Maggie Björklund isn't a household name. Despite the surname unfamiliarity (she's Danish), the singer/pedal steel guitarist's debut solo album Coming Home is drawn very much from a familiar source, wedding Maggie's warm folksy style together with the contributions of musicians like Calexico, Mark Lanegan, Rachel Flotard (Visqueen) and Jon Auer of the Posies. Our friends at Bloodshot Records saw Maggie play with Mark Pickerel at SXSW a couple of years ago, fell in love, and promptly signed her to their label, adding her to their roster of wonderful, Ruckus approved talent. [...]

Ha Ha Tonka and Bloodshot Records have teamed up again to release Ha Ha Tonka's third album, Death Of A Decade . With Death Of A Decade , Ha Ha Tonka entered a 200 year old barn in New Paltz, NY with producer Kevin McMahon (Titus Andronicus, The Felice Brothers, The Walkmen) and emerged with something equally timeless. Death Of A Decade doesn't stray too far from the band's patented sound established on Buckle in the Bible Belt and Novel Sounds Of The Nouveau South . [...]
