Its been a good while since we've put up one of these type of posts, but a plethora of top notch releases meant it demanded to be temporarily resurrected! So without further ado we have another taste of Laura Marling's much anticipated new album in the shape of Once , and another taste from the rather weirder folk songstress Amanda Jo Williams and Holster, The Gun It Hangs In There, which is taken from her new album You're The Father Of My Songs . Cass McCombs [...]
Having set the bar so high this is certainly not one of Lanegan’s best efforts and can be filed under disappointment. By Martyn Coppack
How goes the Blue comeback? Given their role on ITV2's Big Reunion, and their swaggering refusal to play more than handful of the related gigs on account of being too famous, things must be sweet for them, right? Apparently not : BOYBAND Blue have gone bust — in the middle of a massive comeback tour. Band members Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe have called in administrators for their company Blueworld Ltd. It's hard to believe an act who were 11th in Eurovision just two years ago could be [...]

A helping of country-flavored blues, Cajun, soul and gospel British guitarist George Breakfast's soulful sound wouldn't be particularly out-of-place in Muscle Shoals, Austin or even underground Nashville. There's a raspy Americana edge to his voice, and a gospel-inflected strut to of his songs that suggest everything from light '70s country to Little Feat inspired funk and Commander Cody-styled jump blues. The vocals are charmingly rough in spots, but the backing musicians are fluid and tight, and the melodies and lyrics are insinuating. Anyone looking to rekindle the 19702s warm infusion of country, blues, R&B, [...]

Shannon And The Clams: Dreams In The Rat House - Not quite retro enough for rockabilly and a bit too vintage for prog rock, Shannon And The Clams , the Oakland-based garage trio helmed by one-time Hunx and the Punx singer Shannon Shaw, is a bit of a mystery. So rather than try to sum up their sound with some overly hyphenated adjective, I’ll just put it like this. Shannon and the Clams is what rockabilly would sound like – wait for it – in the future. The rockabilly portion [...]

Heck yeah, dirty blues! Sometimes, I need a break from all the delicate, sentimental indie music I listen to. At those times, I turn to tunes that I can put on my shades to, wind down a window and play quite loudly. Possibly while giving everyone the finger too, because I'm just rude like that. This is a suitably bitchin' tune, with vocals that sound like the unholy love child of Mark Lanegan and Billy Gibbons. Pure, unadultered, rockin' bliss.

An Ode To The Blues is an annual day-long blues festival. It was first held in Bangalore in 2011 to commemorate the centennial birth anniversary of blues legend Robert Johnson (check out pics from the inaugural edition). Now in its third year, the event, held in the backyard of Counter Culture, Bangalore, has evolved into one of the most anticipated events for blues lovers in the garden city. This year's edition of An Ode To The Blues takes place at the Bangalore venue on June 8, celebrating the 102nd birth anniversary of Robert Johnson . While previous editions of [...]

Believe it or not, Mad Mackerel has been around for more than five years now. During that time we've posted more than 4,000 times, and offered more than 5,000 songs for your listening pleasure. And more than three quarters of a million people have paid MM a visit during our lifetime on Google's godawful blogspot and since April 2010 on WordPress. We asked some of the regular MM contributors to give us their top twenty songs since MM first went live and we're also going to give you one big mega-listing shortly, but first up with their personal [...]

On Wolfroy Goes To Town, the 2011 release of BONNIE PRINCE BILLY and his backing band THE CAIRO GANG, there's been this moment, somewhere halfway through the outstanding track Quail & Dumplings, in which a female voice arose – majestic yet unstable, shivering yet clear and strong, proclaiming "why wait for someday, why make a The post Angel Olsen - Half Way Home appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

I always find it interesting when a band’s ‘sound’ seems to moves in opposition to the cultural scene they come from, but I guess music can take you wherever your mind goes. The fact is, there is no limit to what type of music you may hear coming out of Brooklyn. The city is home for musicians of any genre there is. Singer-songwriter Dan Mills and his band are Brooklyn natives whose album, Home Before the Rise of Tide, wears a sonic identity from elsewhere. The album is mostly acoustic with elements of blues, country, pop, and jazz [...]
After the release of the single Master Hunter some weeks ago, the 23 years old singer-songwriter LAURA MARLING now unveils a video clip to the bluesy song. While MARLING calmly plays her guitar in semidarkness, singing (BOB DYLAN reminding) lyrics like "you want a woman who will call your name? It ain't me, babe", in front of The post Laura Marling reveals new video for "Master Hunter" appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

Marie-Flore is French , Parisian in fact. Sings in English and holds her name from a Joan Baez song. She played violin for 8 years, until the guitar finally came into her life. Since then she has never stopped writing & performing across Europe, but has always kept one foot close to her roots, in her native France & its wonderful parisian venues. She embodies the contemporary ‘do it yourself’ attitude with everything from her videos & illustrations, she creates everything to transpire, live her music.. She's already got an album under the belt and a few gigs to her resume. She is [...]

Here's a very decent 1992 doc about the mysterious Robert Johnson . No original Johnson recordings are used, but narrator John Hammond does a good job in his renditions. "Honeyboy" Edwards and Johnny Shines also appear, as well as Eric Clapton and Keith Richards. Thanks to T. Tex Edwards for this one.

Here is another collection of fifteen top tunes lovingly collected and filtered for your listening pleasure. So gather round and invest some time in these - a veritable aural treasure trove of tracks. First up is another track of swaggering blues rock and roll in the shape of New York Avenue from the Delta Routine's recently released album, Cigarettes And Caffeine Nightmares . . In a similar vein, the bravely named Velvets from down under, have a big, sleazy blues sound going [...]
