Ah London 2012. A time of great prosperity; of sporting prowess and cross-cultural celebration! For many (mostly so-called Games Makers , I'd cynically presuppose) those were what one may deem the days – ones spent slobbing about glued to incomprehensible excuses for sport to be revered as a wholly worthwhile alternative to actual work . An elephantine sandpit was plonked down right outside Buckingham Palace, littered with a multiethnic scantily clad and the place was supposedly all the better for it, whilst fortunes were blown on tickets modestly priced at anything up to £2,012. God it [...]

Where to start with the London Olympics? Well chronologically and indeed – as it full well transpired – logically Danny Boyle's stirring patriotisms and Rick Smith's immaculate soundtracking provided as good a place as any. The past sixteen days have proudly proven a subsequent celebration of all things British, from investing exorbitant emotions in in many cases unknown and for the most part unknowable athletes (football fanaticism transposed into a rather more humble arena, you may say in light of the impending 2012/13 kickoff) to slobbing off excessively in front of the gluebox. Departing into rabid flag-waving jingoism [...]
Blur debuted two new tracks on their Twitter this afternoon, broadcasting performances of "Under the Westway" and "The Puritan" live from London. Afterward, they answered questions from fans (favorite pizza: plain cheese) and posted videos ... read more

A new video popped up today from Santigold . The video is for her new single "Disparate Youth", which debuts today on iTunes. The song comes from her much anticipated new LP, Master Of My Make-Believe . Watch the video above. The Shins have created a video for their newest single "Simple Song." Oddly enough, instead of just streaming it, they are offering it up for free on iTunes. It's a quirky and adorable video, featuring an aged James Mercer giving his last will and testament. Grab it [...]

La patriótica denominación engloba a tres grupos: Blur, New Order y The Specials . Se tratará de un macroconcierto que se celebrará en pleno Hyde Park el mismo 12 [...]

Frank Yang There was a stretch a few years ago when it seemed like there was a domino effect with record stores in Toronto closing up shop - a moment of silence for Flash & Crash, Driftwood, CD Exchange, Urban Sound Exchange, Edward's Record World, CD Replay, Second Spin, Sam The Record Man, Music World and a special tear for Stinky's (aka Cactus) back in Oakville. This was alarming on so many levels; personally, because I spent more than a few weekends digging through their bins for stuff and if they went away, I'd have to find [...]

Its 2:42 am and I just arrived back at our lovely vacation rental after my first day of Coachella ever. It was an interesting and exhausting day to say the least. Here's what's gone down thus far: - Good: My uncle gave us directions to take the scenic route through the mountains from San Diego. It was pretty nice, to say the least. Here's a picture from the airplane on the way to SD, as well as a nice panoramic shot from our drive overlooking all of Palm Springs [...]
Last week saw London's Brixton Academy play host to the annual Shockwaves NME Awards. The show was presented by the perpetually dapper Jarvis Cocker and featured performances from Kasabian, The Specials, The Maccabees, Biffy Clyro and Marina & The Diamonds, The Big Pink and Lily Allen, Hole, and Paul Weller. Here's the full list of winners: Godlike Genius - Paul Weller Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution to Music - The Specials Best British Band - Muse Best International Band [...]

The Pyramid Stage awaits Blur Having finally removed myself from my bed after a good 13 hour sleep, I can fill you kids in on my highlights. Firstly a mention to The Specials , I was really excited to see them as they're not exactly the sort of group I'm gonna see playing at Koko on a Friday night and that's exactly what festivals are all about. There's something amazing about skanking to 'A Message to you Rudy' or 'Monkey Man' along with tens of thousands of other people while a 57-year old [...]

Ok, a little late, but nonetheless, watching the BBC coverage of glasto, made me incredibly jealous of all those present. But then, I remembered I have a Reading ticket. However, some bands like THE SPECIALS and blur, obviously could convince me otherwise that glasto would of been a good choice. blur even had Phil Daniels on! RESULT! I could rant on about how amazing it was, but I wasn't there, I can't fully appreciate it. A few song-highlights of what I saw. The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition [...]

Blur aside, The Specials reunion has us more excited than any of the umpteen other band reincarnations this year. And by the looks of this - their first - performance on Later with Jools Holland , they've barely missed a beat. They also played "Gangsters" , but here is the reunited Specials performing their hit "A Message To You Rudy".

If you grew up in the 90s like some of us (no names will be mentioned), then you must be creaming your collective pants. Let's see, we've had Jane's Addiction , Blur , Faith No More , Sublime , Jesus Lizard , Pavement , Orbital and The Libertines all in the news in the past couple months about confirmed or rumored reunions. And that's not even taking into account The Specials or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young . Well, add one more to your list. The already [...]

We've been overloading you guys with crazy new material and such in the past few days which made think, why not inundate everyone with my music collection again? For those who don't know, this is iTunes mixery part tres. Here's how it goes: I play iTunes on shuffle -> tell you which song comes up -> provide the mp3 and a tidbit -> continue until five songs and embarrassment are complete. See my previous "mixeries" at the bottom of the post. They're oh so delicious. Lou Barlow - "Home" [MP3] (from [...]
