Music blog Sounds of RVA is putting on a new showcase at Bogart's in the Fan showing off local bands every month, and if anyone knows about good Richmond bands, it's Sounds of RVA. The first installment features the chamber folk of Zac Hryciak and the Jungle Beat , funk duo Boxwave (featuring one on cajon, a Peruvian percussion instrument and the other on bass) and prog rockers Starfish Prime . The Sounds of RVA Showcase at Bogart's in the [...]

French-born gypsy jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel will be performing at Bogart's on Friday, Nov. 9. His recently released album, "Origins," has been called daring and dazzling and he recently visited the WNYC Studios where he performed songs from the new album, his masterful guitar work on full display. Stephane Wrembel - A Child's Dream [...]

Just when Monday starts to beat you down this gem turns up in your coffee. Hometown heroes The Afghan Whigs already have a show scheduled at Bogarts this fall, but now they have a full on party scheduled for New Years Eve right here in the Queen City. Yep, looks like the venue is Bogarts again and this time everyone will be ringing in 2013 along with Greg and the boys. A link to the Facebook event is right here. And don't get too comfortable with the news because [...]

You knew it was coming, right? I think all of us here in Cincinnati knew that our hometown heroes, The Afghan Whigs would return after the announcement that the band was reuniting for a tour. And it seemed to creep closer and closer as more dates were announced. Well, in case you had any doubts, it's happening, as City Beat reports this morning, the band will be playing a show in October at Bogarts, which also happens to be the last Cincinnati venue The Afghan Whigs played at, all the way back in 1999. [...]

Battles makes it its business to produce art that sticks in the mind. We all remember (don’t we?) the distinctive image of the band performing “Atlas” in a mirrored cube, which served as the primary set piece for their first music video as well as the artwork for their 2007 debut album. Similarly, the strikingly vibrant cover art of solidified pink goo defined the sound and feel of their most recent album, Gloss Drop. Unfortunately, even with all these arresting images, not to mention their dense and compelling music, the narrative around Battles that has seemed to [...]

You've gotta give Bogarts some credit, they cleaned the place up, and are starting to book some interesting shows. We are pretty stoked for Santigold , Battles and Phantogram , all happening this summer. Today, we have some tickets to the Phantogram show to give away, and we know you wanna get in for free. Oh, did I mention one of our favorite local bands, Sacred Spirits, is opening? Well, they are, so get there early. Oh yeah, the tickets. To win, just [...]

I'm a little late on this review, but the show was too good not to share some pics. These are from the St. Vincent show up at Bogart's in Cincy earlier this month. We saw her back when she was opening for The National and immediately fell in love. Merry Me was a constant spin, as was Actor . She has really arrived with her most recent release, Strange Mercy . She effortlessly commands the rooms attention, then drops jaws with her talent on the guitar, hauntingly beautiful voice and she is kind of attractive. The [...]

BOGARTS Feat SEAN PRICE, OHNO by KONFIDENT New music from Konfident "Bogarts" featuring Sean Price & Oh No. Dope...Uncut and raw hip hop.... Official !

We have a special surprise for you today, a ticket giveaway! It's been awhile, but we are excited to give you the opportunity to see not one but two amazing acts on the same bill at Bogarts in Cincinnati. The show is May 9th and we have a some tickets to give away here on ENS. Featured of course is Annie Clark, better known as St. Vincent, who continues on her upward career track, and deservedly so. If you haven't seen St. Vincent live yet, you really should, I think I once described her as being [...]

Secret underground music venue The Yerb (I don't know where this is at all, but it's somewhere in Richmond) is currently in need of donations to keep the shows going. They apparently had a recent theft of over $1,000 and that money could have been used to book some great shows. So naturally, there will be a fundraiser to help out. On Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Bogart's, the Dream Machine and the Vendors will play a free show and there will be dollar liquor [...]

Some interesting news out of Clifton today as the historic venue Bogarts has a brand new 'venue within a venue' to promote. The news got me thinking about a conversation I have on a regular basis with music friends around the city. Can Bogarts rebuild their image? There has been a dark cloud hanging over Bogarts for years now, and the negative associations with the once proud venue have really tarnished its image. I have heard countless stories of fragile indie kids being frisked and music bloggers and critics (myself included) being shaken [...]

If you had told me a year ago that I'd get to hear Goodbye Sky Harbor live then I would have called you a liar. I finally got the chance to see Jimmy Eat World, a band that played on my Aiwa portable compact disc player every night after I would be picked up from work since I didn't have a car at 16. It constantly runs through my daily thoughts of what music means and if or what points of life or emotions you can link it to. For me Bleed American and Clarity link to working at a [...]

You know these guys. Alright, a lot of you just know The Middle, but they are better than just that. I haven't had too much time with their newest release Invented , but if I hear just one song from Clarity I'll be satisfied. Who: Jimmy Eat World What: Some up-and-coming indie band When: Thursday, February 17 @ 7:00 Where: Bogarts - Cincinnati ( Gooooooooooooogle map ) Why: Because you wore out your Clarity [...]

Just announced, The New Pornographers and The Walkmen are going out on a co-headlining tour and are making a stop in Cincinnati. This is a really nice booking for Bogarts, who have not been on par with the bookings of Southgate House or on a smaller scale MOTR in recent months. The Walkmen are supporting their album Lisbon , their first for Fat Possum and The New Pornographers latest album, Together from last May is keeping them on the road. The Walkmen have been in Cincinnati several times in the past few years, [...]

I first saw soulful piano man Adrian Duke perform last summer with Samson Trinh and the Upper East Side Band as they performed Abbey Road . I was blown away by Duke's deep voice and limitless talent on the piano and fell in love with his music. Now he has a new CD entitled Lazy Bones , which is full of lots of amazing covers and some original stuff. The CD will be released on Friday, Dec. 3 with a special concert at Bogart’s. Adrian Duke - Lazy [...]

Samson Trinh is no stranger to the Beatles. He and the Upper East Side Band recently released a recording of Abbey Road and performed an amazing show at Dogwood Dell. Fans have been asking for more Beatles music, so Samson Trinh is joing the Mills Family Band and Adrian Duke for a special performance of Sides 1 & 2 of The Beatles’ White Album. The show takes place at Bogart's on Monday, July 12. Show starts at 9 p.m. and there's a $7 cover.

You have a better chance of hearing Taylor Swift songs banging out of Kanye’s tinted windows than you do of hearing either of their pop asses on the Good Life speakers during Fever. The monthly two-room turntable team of Frank White, Mister Jason, and the Flavorheard gang may be Boston’s most simultaneously eclectic and dance-friendly party. So why should this highly decorated five-man crew pay attention when a drunken dink requests Rihanna? “All these girls are always like, ‘Play Gaga, play Ke$ha,’ and we’re like, ‘Nah — [...]
