![[Listen] – Bombadil – "A Question"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3955866_lg.jpg)
Tweet The number of times I've listened to a song with talking involved and enjoyed it are so rare that only three examples come to mind; the first being Titus Andronicus ' " A More Perfect Union ," the second being all of Paul Baribeau 's perfectly written songs which I think count as talking, and now Bombadil 's " A Question ." There's something in this practically self-deprecating song that feels both Bishop Allen [...]

Laundromat - Bombadil // Buy A Question - Bombadil // Buy Bombadil (@wearebombadil) was formed in 2005 at Duke University, so basic math suggests its members are (hopefully) over their horrible, awkward preteen/teen years. The level of tension and anxiety presented in their songs, though, is so expertly crafted that it's difficult to imagine the tracks as anything but the musings of a hopelessly discomforted teen. The group's new album, All That The Rain [...]
Awkward is my favorite emotion. It rattles you, takes you out of any complacency you might have settled in to, humbles you, and leaves you feeling uncomfortable to your very core. Sure happy is great but a good emotional challenge does a better job as showcasing who you really are. So it's no surprise that I got all squirmy and excited over the delightfully awkward song "A Question" and then proceeded to send terribly awkward and embarrassing text messages true to form. Waiting to ask a girl out at the laundromat is pretty awkward too and there's a song about [...]
I have discovered that in my later years (well, I'm only 21, but still) I have become more lazy and less inclined to ever leave Raleigh to do anything. Especially to do something that requires money, like go to a concert. Add Bombadil to the picture and it changes things completely. On Saturday, Nov. 12, Bombadil graced Cat's Cradle with their album release party for All That The Rain Promises , the long awaited new album from this local band that is comprised of four very talented men: Bryan Rahija, Stuart Robinson, Daniel Michalak, and [...]
It has been a long time since we have heard anything come from the local folk group Bombadil , which is really quite a shame. Maybe that is why I was so excited for the release of All That The Rain Promises , a new album that follows their 2009 release of Tarpits and Canyonlands . Everything that you hoped would be present on a Bombadil album is apparent in this new release: strong emotional ballads, beautiful folk and pop melodies, and upbeat songs with deeper meanings all combine to create an album that one can become [...]

I am becoming more and more confident in talking on the radio. I am slowly developing my voice - my on-air personality. There is still room for improvement; namely in the transition from Stuarto's show to mine, but I'll get there eventually. Last Friday's show was centered around indie-folk again, with plenty of psychedelic folk, orchestral folk, and folk-pop as well. As started last week, two songs will be featured at bottom. "Notorious Lightning" by Destroyer off Your Blues "Shanty for the Arethusa" [...]

Durham, NC band Bombadil are back with a new album called All That The Rain Promises . If you had the honor of hearing the band's previous LP, Tarpits And Canyonlands , you'll have an idea of what to expect. Bombadil creates an off-beat approach to folk-pop with odd lyrics and a unique songwriting style. You definitely get that on the new album. One moment filled with life and full-blown instrumentation, Bombadil is just as apt to drop the bottom out for [...]
Monday, October 24, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: St. Vincent is tonight! You have to be there with me. Doors at ACL Live at the Moody Theater open at 6:30pm. Tickets are just $20. Cate Le Bon is opening. And now, some music. Enjoy. : Spanish Prisoners - Know No Violence : Some of you may already be well aware of this band, but my introduction didn't happen until I stumbled across this pop gem in a CMJ-related post [...]
I've talked about Durham, NC folk-rock outfit Bombadil before. I was a big fan of their 2009 album Tarpits and Canyonlands, but I'm afraid you didn't all get the point. So I thought I'd bring them to your attention again. The band have a new album on the way. All That The Rain Promises has been set for a November 8th release. It's another collection of catchy roots-influenced tracks on the
Bombadil's Bolivian folk-rooted music will bewitch your soul and open your eyes to a refreshingly new sound.

After seeing the amazing lineup for Hopscotch , you have probably been trying to figure out how in the heck you will be able to see all the bands you want. Luckily, this festival takes place in downtown Raleigh, so all show are but a walk , a rickshaw , an R-line away. They have released 14 new bands to the schedule and have added 3 new venues - White Collar Crime , The Union and Fletcher Opera Theater in Progress Energy Center. The show I am most excited about will be [...]

The Floydcast is named after that furry fuckwit in the picture: the Song, by Toad house cat and Mrs. Toad's imbecilic companion of the last seven years. Last night we had him killed. I know you're supposed to say 'put to sleep' or whatever, but when the poor wee fucker is looking plaintively at you because you're the only person at the vet's that he actually trusts it really does feel like execution. We think he had lung cancer of some form or other. His lungs had clouded up, the vet had tried more or less every trick [...]

As of this week, I now carry the title of Music Director at WDVX. It's still a part time gig, but I'm now working a few more hours and carrying several more responsibilities. I get to receive and catalogue all the new music that's coming in to the station, take calls and emails from the music promoters, and prepare our reports for the Americana Airplay Chart. Yesterday, however, I got started by sorting through a few thousand CD's in my Program Director's office to help make space for the new stuff that keeps coming [...]
It's that time of year again... time to make my year end "Best of" list. I should start rolling out my Top 20 list sometime over the coming week. Until then, you can go back and read up on my favorite releases of 2009 , and relive some of that music with the following YouTube clips... #1 - Noble Beasts by Andrew Bird #2 - One Foot in the Ether by Band of Heathens #3 - Tarpits [...]

It appears there is truth behind the popular phrase about time speeding by the older you get. After hitting the ripe age of 30 back in September and taking a nice little road trip from my home north of Seattle to the Southwest town of Albuquerque at the end of that month, time seems to have slipped by with ease. And it appears I haven't done one of these podcast things since July! I took that photo up there somewhere along the side of the highway in northern [...]

Bombadil (a character from LOTR) are a band with extremely strong body parts and short of engaging in an arm wrestle with the chaps who are we to argue. For all their manly boasts however this threesome are quite capable of exposing their fragile sides as all 90 seconds of 'I Am' ably proves. It all adds up to a lovely introduction to the Durham (US version) outfit that reminds one of certain parts of the classic 'Wrecked By Lions' by Number One Cup. Something precious requiring further investigation this weekend. KD [...]

Contrary to what you might suspect from my location this week and the steady stream of silly videos from Anstruther , this podcast is not anything to do with the Fence Collective or Haarfest. Actually, apart from a few brief intrusions from my pile of audio cassettes (a lot of time in the van, you see) this is generally just the usual stream of music news and new bits and pieces from my inbox. Actually, I am way behind my inbox at the moment, due to a week of holiday and now a week in Anstruther, [...]
In case you misse it, Kings has updated their Web site , and they have several amazing shows coming up in the next couple of months. Among them: Nachtmystium, Zoroaster and The Atlas Moth (three of my current top favorite bands) on Sept. 24, and Valient Thorr with Junius and Howl (whom I had to miss when they were at Volume 11 a couple of weeks back) on Sept. 8. That show is one of the Hopscotch kick-off parties, and also kicks off a big tour for Valient Thorr in support of their new [...]

Bombadil's Bryan Rahija dropped us a line late last week with news of a "lost" track that must have disappeared en route to finding a home within the band's excellent 2009 LP Tarpits and Canyonlands . Well call the search party off, because the song's been found and is now available for free download HERE . "Barcelona" is classic Bombadil through and through, a foot-stomping canticle informed in equal parts by stein-clanging inebriated sing-alongs and sea shanty hootenanies, meaning it's a pretty fun little number. Here's what Bryan had to say about it: [...]
