The Clash were easily the most commercially successful band to come out of the 19702s punk scene, with their potent brand of punk rock that mixed elements of ska, reggae, funk and rockabilly, all set to Joe Strummer's socio-political lyrics. On September 9, the iconic and influential punk act will release Sound System , a massive nine-disc box set that comes packaged in a vintage boom box designed by Clash bassist Paul Simonon. The set, which will feature remastered versions of the band's [...]

This week, London three-piece Daughter released their mesmeric debut album, If You Leave . To celebrate, the trio popped in to BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday night to perform a jaw-dropping session excusively for Zane Lowe. It included this: a gorgeous, slow-burning mix up of Bon Iver's 'Perth' and Hot Chip's 'Ready For The Floor'. Although completely contrasting in their original formats, the group transform them into one continous torch song. Utterly, utterly beautiful. Listen and download below. Loving this Teen Daze rework of Bon Iver's "Perth" as part of the “Stems Project” remix contest, which Teen Daze found him self one of the winners of. Take a listen and float away. from here

It was the last day of the Ottawa Folk Festival . Despite being a chilly day. It was the big ticketed show of the night. Started off the day and got a sneak peek of Bon Iver 's soundcheck. This was the only time I got to be somewhat upclose before the big draw of crowds. Surprised to see Colin Stetson there. The show started off with Providence, Rhode Island's The Low Anthem . [...]

A nice surprise in the inbox today from Astronauts, etc. , the solo project of Berkeley student Anthony Ferraro. Ferraro turned to electronic music when arthritis prevented him from pursuing a career in classical piano; the result is the Supermelodic Pulp EP (slated for release on Sept. 8th). Each song will feature a sci-fi music video for each of its five tracks, with a loose narrative tying them together. Take a listen, here's "Mystery Colors". For fans of The xx, Bon Iver, Beach House. Sci-fi video below.

I remember seeing an e-mail about this Texas based band Madràs a few days ago, but looks like I misplaced it. Today, I was lucky to hear from a friend of the group with a reminder to check out their music. The duo of brothers just recently completed their debut album, which sounds like it'd fit great with the ethereal sounds of Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Oliver Tank. Its a calming soundtrack to a day where I'm completely frustrated with happenings from my day job. Hopefully, I can turn things around and getting a better [...]
Last week, The Band' s famed multi-instrumentalist Levon Helm passed away, and since then numerous musicians from across the board, including The Black Keys , have since paid tribute following his passing. Included in that is Bon Iver , who, during a show in San Francisco, covered The Band's "Ophelia," which you can watch above via Hidden Tracks .
Bon Iver paid tribute to the late, great Levon Helm in San Francisco last week with their sprightly cover of The Band's "Ophelia" from Northern Lights – Southern Cross . Tweet vaso link The new video for Bon Iver's "Towers" doesn't seem to make much, if any sense. It's the story of an older gentleman who seems to be the salty, seafaring type. The title of the song is used quite literally in the video, but it's not as if you'll get much of an explanation out of me. Just watch it. Maybe you'll be able to pick up on the profundity yourself. Bon Iver , the sophomore album from the Grammy Award-winning Best [...]

If you're thinking of getting a Christmas present for someone who has serious road rage, Bon Iver's self titled album “ Bon iver, Bon iver ” takes you down a new road to some kind of elixir into your own serenity . The album draws you in and really makes you to listen to the music. The song composition is a mixture of lullaby-type melodies with familiar pop instrumentation unfolding in a constant , timeless release. I can hardly understand what Justin Vernon is singing about most of the time, but his [...]

Bon Iver has been the talk of town lately, with their/his (we do say "their" as Bon Iver is a band) 2 sold out shows at Massey Hall this week, Grammy nominations, workout videos , topping year end lists and twitter wars about whiskey. This post is to be about the music (well not their version actually). I received an e-mail from Columbus, Ohio band Deadwood Floats , who've recorded their version of top-notch cover "Holocene". The band began as almost a distraction for members Adam and Drew in late summer of '09, now six members [...]
