Here at Earmilk , there are a few favorites that get passed around and around. We talk about them at the meetings, we go to the shows, and we listen while we work. Elvis Perkins is one of those artists. I recently saw him and his band open up for Bon Iver in Orlando, and I can't even begin to tell you how good the show was. Elvis Perkins is a folk-rock recording artist ( I call him "recording artist", because hates the term "singer/songwriter". It reminds him of being a bad guitar [...]
Welcome back to Video Round-Up, where the SD crew picks through the flurry of videos circulating this particular week and posts the highlights. This week, we remember two late greats: John Hughes (who passed away yesterday, 8.6.09 from a heart attack at the age of 59) and Heath Ledger (who directed a video for Modest Mouse before he passed away last year). After that, there's some live goodness from Alela Diane , Lykke Li featuring [...]

Now that I've finally gotten over my Bonna-flu, here's one last post to talk about what I took from this year's shenanigans. The Bonnaroo guide book talked about the weird familiarity that Bonnaroo becomes after several years of attending, and that definitely struck me this year. The place now certainly feels "like going back to the neighborhood where you grew up as a kid". But this installment still managed to be a unique experience from every other. Outside of the hurricanes Thursday night, I think this was the best weather this festival has ever seen, and I feel the constant [...]
Welcome to Video Round-Up, where the SD crew picks through the flurry of videos circulating this particular week and posts the highlights. This week, we've got some excellent visual stimulation from Animal Collective , Cursive , White Denim , Blur , Doves , the Gaslight Anthem , St. Vincent , Frightened Rabbit , the Gossip [...]
Another episode of Breakfast at Sulimay's featuring Common and Bon Iver .

On a whim I checked in with Breakfast At Sulimay's, the amusing Web video series in which three elderly music fans review indie and hip-hop singles over coffee at a Philadelphia diner. Turns out another episode was uploaded just yesterday. Remember when Ann, Joe, and Bill panned Animal Collective and it was adorable? You're gonna love these latest segments which include cranky critiques of Dan Deacon's "Snookered," Bat For Lashes' "Glass," and Bon "Eye-vur"'s "Blood Bank." One actually gets a good review. Guess which one! Continue reading Old Folks Review Dan Deacon, Bon Iver...
Firstly, a wonderful homemade video by Pablo J Lopez for The Decemberists' 'The Rake's Song' and 'The Hazards of Love 3 (Revenge!)' (via tsururadio.com ) Secondly, Bon Iver and My Brightest Diamond performing the gorgeous Bon Iver track 'Flume' at the Radio City Music Hall in NYC last weekend for the Red Hot Organization. (via Music is Art )
Bon Iver recently passed through Boston before heading over to Europe, where his tour begins tomorrow in the UK. While in Boston, the members of Bon Iver harmonized on the Jayhawks " Tampa To Tulsa" from their fantastic record Rainy Day Music .

Only love is all maroon Gluey feathers on a flume Sky is womb and she's the moon Bon Iver and My Brightest Diamond performed a duet live last Sunday at a benefit for the Red Hot Organization, and shared together a reprise version of Bon Iver's single Flume . Inside New York's Radio City Music Hall, the acoustic instrumentation along with combination of beautiful [...]
One more random Youtube video then I'll go back to the new stuff. I've heard a lot of other people talk about Bon Iver's album For Emma, Forever Ago , but I haven't heard much from the man himself, so this was interesting to me. If you still haven't ever listened to For Emma, Forever Ago all the way through, I highly recommend it. In the winter of 2006, Justin Vernon, a 25-year-old struggling indie musician, retreated to his dads remote log cabin in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to repair his broken heart. While there [...]

I saw this beautiful a cappella version sometime last year, when Bon Iver was in Paris to record for Vincent Moon's La Blogoteque session, and remember that at the time I was completely shocked by its spontaneous beauty. The pure joy of people singing out of the random, the completely silenced crowd outside a Paris condominium or simply a happy dog, turned the song into a really special experience. For some reason or another, I didn't get around to post about it on the blog, but luckily I saw it again on Captain Obvious [...]
The indie stars came out on Sunday for a live performance of songs from this year's massive indie compilation Dark Was the Night . Like the album, the performance was a benefit for the Red Hot Organization, which raises money for AIDS-related support. Bon Iver, The National, Feist, David Byrne, My Brightest Diamond, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and the Dirty Projectors were all present. As expected, most artists reprised their album performances, some broke out new tunes and there were plenty of guest appearances - including My Brightest Diamond's guest [...]
I think I've read every review and looked at every photo (twice) from last night's Dark Was The Night concert held at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Many MoB favorites including Bon Iver , David Byrne , The National , My Brightest Diamond , and Feist were in attendance. I've watched enough YouTube by this time that I feel like I was there - in spirit at least. If you haven't picked up a copy of the double-disc greatness that is [...]
Bon Iver performs "Flume" with The National and Shara Worden on 5/3/09 Did you happen to make it to New York City last week for the Dark Was the Night live concert at Radio City Music hall? No, I didn't either. But a few of our twitter friends were there, and "Flume" had everyone drooling. Below the [...]
This needs no introduction, but I'll just say I'm definitely going to try to catch Bat for Lashes' show in Boston whenever it's rescheduled: This performance of "Flume" is from the Red Hot Organization's Dark Was the Night benefit concert on Sunday night at Radio City Music Hall in NYC (which also featured David Byrne, Feist, the Dirty Projectors, among others), which Bon Iver's Justin Vernon performed as a duet with My Brightest Diamond's Shara Worden: And finally, here's a very cool animated video for Fleet Foxes' "Mykonos" (from their [...]

This is an "easy" mash up according to Seth but that does not negate the fact that it rocks. I Want You D.A.N.C.E. - ComaR ~~~~~ My goodness; auto tune that doesn't suck. Bon Iver is 2 for 2 in 2009. Amazing. Just astoundingly amazing. Sounds as if Bon Iver had been listening to a bunch of Imogen Heap and then realized, "Hey, I'm just as good. Let's rock this joint!" Woods - Bon Iver More auto-tune greatness: Freaking hilarious. ~~~~~ [...]

Bon Iver's Justin Vernon returned to his former high school on Sunday night to perform a special benefit show with the jazz band at Memorial High School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. In addition to several jazz standards (Frank Sinatra’s “The Lady Is a Tramp," Mahalia Jackon’s “A Satisfied Mind," Duke Ellington’s “Rocks In My Bed,” Nina Simone’s “Since I Fell For You,” Ella Fitzgerald’s “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” and “Miss Otis Regrets”), he took advantage of the band's brass section and reworked two songs from his simply stunning debut album, For Emma Forever Ago , “Lump Sum” and [...]
