What does it mean to bring the music of your childhood into the childhood of your own children? Bonnie "Prince" Billy and frequent collaborator Dawn McCarthy (of Faun Fables ) answer with What the Brothers Sang , a full-length tribute that reinvigorates the songs of the Everly Brothers with a clean, respectful gloss. Phil and Don Everly's impeccable harmonies set a standard for pop music that funneled into the songs of the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and nearly everyone since. It's a pleasant surprise to hear how deftly Oldham's oaky tenor traces their smooth [...]
For artists such as Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Dawn McCarthy , who are mostly associated with alt-folk and indie-rock, a full album homage to the Everly Brothers initially comes as a surprise. The Everly Brothers sold millions of records with pop songs such as 'All I Have To Do Is Dream' and 'Wake up Little Susie' but they had their chart-topping thunder stolen by the Beatles and retreated back into their first love, country music, to great acclaim. The 13 tunes included on What the Brothers Sang come from that later period, and 'So [...]
Get behind the scenes and check out Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Dawn McCarthy recording their collaborative record What The Brothers Sang . It's a set of little known Everly Brothers tracks and is out next week via Domino Records.

Will Oldham is coming to town as Bonnie "Prince" Billy, accompanied by players from his Chijimi EP: Cheyenne Marie Mize and Emmett Kelly. It's a special performance - just one of three on this mini tour - that will likely incorporate a fair amount of songs the trio played at a sacred music festival in Milan. To read more about the show, as well as BPB's upcoming Everly Brothers covers record with Dawn McCarthy, check out my preview in the penultimate issue of The Other Paper . Deville also typed up [...]

On the heels of their holiday 73 , Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Dawn McCarthy of Faun Fables have announced a full LP of Everly Brothers covers. Entitled What the Brothers Sang , the record of retooled classics is due February 9th, 2013 via Drag City. What the Brothers Sang seeks to instill McCarthy and Billy's uniquely harmonized presence into a collection of [...]

Another year, another Bonnie "Prince" Billy collaboration. Not that I'm moaning and groaning about it. I've come to expect some kind of Oldham goodness at some point during any given year. And so news has been released that we will indeed see another collaborative album from Will Oldham and Dawn McCarthy. This time in the form of What The Brothers Sang via Drag City on February 19th. The album is inspired by, though not an actual covers record of, The Everly Brothers, for whom both Oldham and McCarthy share an affinity. Until we get out first taste of [...]

Fleet Foxes just sent over info on the inaugural edition of a forthcoming lit journal from their team at Unified Field Collective, complete with previously unreleased tracks from Robin Pecknold, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Department of Eagles, and Amen Dunes on limited 103 vinyl. In addition to the musical component - songs described as being "in their raw, newly crafted state—a rare glimpse at works between conception and completion" - the 60-page publication features pieces on the subject of "transition," including a journal entry written by West Memphis 3 member Damien Echols on moving on from an 18-year incarceration on death row, [...]
A couple of years ago it seemed as if Basto had released a couple of solid tracks like " Again and Again " and " Gregory's Theme ," which still sounded like most piano based tracks. This year Basto has proved his tremendous production versatility on " I Rave You " then "Bonny," both containing Basto's earlier signature sounds but on steroids. "Bonny" begins with a dark electro house build up before leading into playful chord progressions reminiscent of a Zedd track. As for the drop, lets just say Basto has created another jaw dropper, which will simply make crowds go [...]
