I saw a gorgeous sight this morning, driving along a twisty-turny country road. I'd just crossed a rickety old bridge and after coasting around the bend I came across a grey kangaroo sitting in the middle of the road. Green grass on either side, shrouded in fog, it stared at me calmly before casually bounding away through the bush. It was a fantastic start to the day. Here's to unexpected views around the bend. And here's to the great pile of coverage I have languishing on my hard drive. Enjoy. Here I [...]
For a limited time, the folks at Antenna Farm Records are offering up a free digital download of Euphoria Is All We Know . This release celebrates the local label's history by featuring songs from the (mostly) Bay Area-based artists that have graced Antenna Farm's roster since 2003, including Papercuts , the Botticellis , Bart Davenport , and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone . More information, tracklist, and MP3 after the jump. The title of this compilation (presumably) comes from the opening lyric [...]

So you haven't been to one Mission Creek Festival show yet? Well on the 23rd of July at 9PM at The Knockout in San Francisco, one of the finest acts in the Bay Area will be performing their hearts out to a crowd of lucky people. You see, The Botticellis are the essence of not only Bay Area music, but California music. Free spirited, intelligent, and not oversaturated with influence, their last album, 'Old Home Movies', is a short yet sweet piece of pop craft that assists the [...]

The 13th Annual Mission Creek Music Festival kicks off today in San Francisco with some pretty exciting names. Having a long standing record at breaking new and exciting acts over the years, MCM Fest is still delivering some of the best in the Bay and International acts. Today we have The Aerosols with Dream Date, My First Earthquake , and Sonny & The Sunsets at Knockout, Collosal Yes with The Love Dimension , 123 Picnic , and Nick Jaina at El Rio, darwinsbitch [...]

Well today is the last day of the San Francisco Popfest and probably the best day to attend one of the shows. After all today is Dear Nora, Eux Autres, ChEAP RED, Birds of California, and the ever so wonderful Botticellis at Café du Nord. This is a great opportunity to witness the best in local music and up and coming bands that you'll be listening to later on because your friends told you to or Pitchfork gave them a 8.1 and you figured, "Hey! They're good but certainly not the most [...]

Blah blah we all know that I work in a store that is probably a terrible store, yet I get to listen to really great music at work - one of the only reasons I'm actually STILL at my job, tbh. I used to post a bunch of songs we played but when it went into Christmas time, I basically went berserk with all the awful music so I stopped, but now, I'm back, so here's some of the tunes from last week: 1. Me Plus One by Kasabian 2. The Reviewer by the [...]

I'm trying to get better about adding bands for you guys to check out on my twitter page. I was just about to add The Botticellis to that list, then I listened to their stuff once more. These guys are too good to pass up as just a ...

String metal? The description of Oakland based instrumental band Judgement Day sounds cool on paper; but is it really? In reality, the "string metal" act is more than cool, it's awe-inspiring. After all, classical music is the true inspiration and influence of metal music, so it would make sense that the genre would return to its roots with a bit of a sinister twist. Their music screams and roars with immense intensity both on their first full-length, Dark Opus (self-released, 2007) and at their insane live shows. Just go to one of their [...]
The thing that really left an impression on me was how both the Bottecellis and their label thanked me for doing a small review about their debut album 'Old Home Movies'. It's the little things that really make a music blogger's day. When I think about it a bit more though I probably would've been partial to the Bottecellis even if they'd turned out like the Boxcutters front man such is their

So the only good thing about my job, outside the fact that I get paid, is that somehow I get to listen to mostly good music whilst I'm being tortured with talking to people. The music, sometimes, is so good, it's stuff that I don't even know about yet. This is how I was introduced to the Botticellis. This song is really infectuous and I couldn't get it out of my head. The band themselves get plus points on the name, but minus points on being from the bay area. The rest of their album is something I'm not totally [...]

Since you won't be seeing much on Bay Area shows or anything else for that matter in the next few days. I'll post this Spring themed mix to tide you over until I return from Boston on the 14th. [Happy birthday to Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers, and here are some shows you might want to drive by ...] I dare you to see An Horse [pictured] and not be completely won over. The Aussie duo is at the Echoplex with Nova Scotia's Wintersleep . ... Then again, you could be won over by myriad other artists tonight too: Brett Dennen holds forth at the House of Blues (supported by Angus and Julia Stone ) in the first of a two-night stand. [...]

Antenna Farm's The Botticellis, Bart Davenport, and Sugar & Gold, are still in the midst of their tour, with stops in Austin the next few days. The Botticellis released their excellent debut album, Old Home Movies , last year to more than a few welcomed ears. audio: the botticellis "old home movies" the botticellis on daytrotter bart davenport "a young one" [...]
When the Botticellis cancelled their show last June at Davey's Uptown, I wept a single tear and made origami figures only to teach them the utter futility of hope. (OK, actually I enjoyed a great se... Continue reading "Don't miss the Botticellis this Saturday at the Record Bar (MP3 enhanced)" >

It would be impossible for me to describe the plethra of bands attending this year's SXSW . I'll leave that for someone who has more time on their hands than me. I will however tell you about a handful of shows that I believe you should check out (if you're going) or just check out the band's music if you're not going (like me). Fans of sweet folk and people who became a slave to anything Bon Iver puts out should check out The Low Anthem . The [...]

The Botticellis - "Table by the Window" (from The Botticellis 73) Good news for The Lonelyhearts and The Botticellis , both of whom were recently featured on Daytrotter. The Lonelyhearts perform songs off of their last two albums, while The Botts' second session offers two album tracks, a new one and the A-side of their self-titled 73 (released last year on Bellevue Records ). The Botticellis are now heading down to SXSW on that Antenna [...]
