Ed Wall is a modern day gypsy, and I'm not talking in the pejorative French way but rather the good, bohemian way. So in today's quest to find some new music I figured it was about time to sort through the insane amount of soundcloud tracks that have recently been sent to us. Boy was I happy to find this gem known by the name Manwomanchild . They self-describe themselves as having a 702s glam-rock style sound and I'd say that's pretty spot on, yet hitting a more modern re-creation of it by adding in synths and complex lyrics. Their debut self-titled album was released in December of 2010 and is filled with tracks featuring [...]

I was skeptical about the prospects of Of Montreal's latest release, an EP, thecontrollersphere . Though Skeletal Lamping earned a place in the canon after a few listens (and it took a few listens), False Priest failed to sit as well with me. Was it too much to ask for another Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? Some of that magic - some - has returned, I'm happy to say. Kevin Barnes has stopped his band's slow descent into cacaphony - the bad kind, at least - and [...]
In 2009 original Sparkadia disintegrated into nothing, leaving Alex Burnett as the soul surviving member with a head full of pop songs. Alex decided not to let this be his musical downfall and kept the Sparkadia moniker alive as a solo venture, taking influence from other such solo-beings like Kate Bush and Bowie. This coming Valentine's day, Burnett's Sparkadia is releasing the new single 'Mary' as a limited edition 7” vinyl through the new independent label Gold Dust. There will be a launch on February the 16th at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, which is the home of t... Read [...]
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars When the Smith Westerns first came about, I showed them a bit of indifference, and I think that was justified. Vocals on their last album were really muddy, and almost hurt to listen to at point. But dammit if the band just didn't up and turn it around for their latest, Dye It Blonde . Not only do the vocals feel vastly improved, but the music itself appears pristine at points, allowing the band's talents to be presented [...]
One of my goals (let's not call it a resolution, ok) for the year to is try to stay a little more timely with what I'm reviewing. I often felt like I was behind the ball last year, reviewing albums weeks after they'd been released and after you'd probably read a million other reviews already. For 2011 I'll do my best to write up albums closer to their release date if possible. I've mentioned before that I don't have fancy connections that give me promos to listen to or anything, but I'll try to make it work. [...]
Every so often, you allow yourself to hear something that you usually wouldn’t have the time for, and it blows you away. And that’s what keeps you plugging away at new music, with every expectation that you’re bound to find your new favourite band. Thanks to yvynyl , this might have just happened. Walter Meego’s music is so grand and streamlined that you’re left stumped as to guessing why it hasn’t projected the act into the mainstream. There’s an ‘Ok Computer’-esque deliverence of its aggresive, gung-ho display of atmospheric rock songs. [...]
Portugal. The Man- In the Mountain In the Cloud
Alaska's Portugal. The Man made its Atlantic Records debut with this new album, In the Mountain In the Cloud. And because I didn't really like the band's past two albums, I'm surprised to see the music moving in a direction I like a lot more this time around. The ambition that permeated from Portugal's earlier work is more present here. Though the band still feels it necessary to edit its songs heavily, structuring them down to the most simple of parts, the instrumentation is too big, bright, and joyous to not enjoy. Plus, the band does let go [...]

Made a video for the launch of PaperGirl Cardiff . It turned into a bit of Bowie fest. I used Soulwax's remix of Rebel Rebel. I wanted to use Leo Zero's remix of Moonage Daydream, but y'know it just didn't come off. So I thought I'd post it here instead. U2 & Muse covered Rolling Stones, Bowie & Talking Heads (video)
U2 & Muse just finished up a South American stadium tour last Wednesday, April 13th. How did the two groups celebrate? With a covers/karaoke filled after party. The pair stopped by Sao Paulo's Bar Secreto to be exact, where Bono, Larry Mullen and Dom Howard took on the Talking Heads ' "Psycho Killer".
