Ladyhawkemusic.com NME has an interview with Pip Brown, aka New Zealand synth-pop star Ladyhawke , who is getting closer and closer to officially following up her super-tasty 2008 self-titled debut . Anxiety is set for a March 20 release and according to Brown, is synth-free and much more guitar-heavy in the style of '90s bands like Blur and Pixies; well, at least she's keeping things retro. There's no preview track or advance single yet - "Black, White and Blue" will be released on February [...]

Over the next couple of nights I'll be revealing my top 5 albums, my top 5 videos and then, on New Years Eve my top 10 tracks of the year. Tonight it's my favourite albums of the year in partnership with the Hype Machine's annual zeitgeist survey. In a year when there have been so many amazing albums picking a top 5 has not been an easy task but, after much deliberation, procrastination and perambulation I finally plumped for... 1. EMA - Past Lives, [...]

Last week Re:Mix Labs took on Los Angeles at 401 S Main in Downtown. The City of Angels was the final stop for Re:Mix , which started at CMJ in NYC and made pit stops in Miami, Chicago and Las Vegas, of the Hyundai Veloster-sponsored multimedia event. Check out a recap of the week's happenings below as well as earlier coverage during the event here . Exhibiting at the LA Artwalk on Thursday was Robert Reynolds, whose gallery is located at 4th and Spring, [...]

I'm pretty sure I've listened to at least 250 albums in 2011. Going by the sheer amount of music I've gone through over the last 12 months or so, even though that number is only the roughest of estimates, it's probably closer to the truth. Now's the time of year when blogs get into list mode, as it were, and post about their top 'x' albums/songs/gigs of 2011; we'll be doing that soon, to an extent, but first come The Blue Walrus's 'honourable mentions' posts. The four regular contributors will be rolling out four picks in one post, one each [...]

When you think of DC's Dark Knight. Batman, you automatically think of Gotham Cities night backdrop, darkened alleyways and the worlds most sadistic villains. So why is it when it comes to soundtracks and album's based on the series films or games, labels choose the strangest selection of songs? We'll let the whole Prince soundtrack slide because he's well....Prince. Duh. Normally when I think of Batman soundtracks the first song that comes to mind is Seal's " Kiss From A Rose " and I have no bad things to say about that song because it's still a classic. [...]

Normally, when I talk about video game soundtracks it's primarily me reflecting on classic Nintendo theme songs from my youth. Video game soundtracks covered on the RiO!B were either from Guitar Hero (RIP) or Rock Band (RIP as well) or the new installments of Madden . But a new and unexpected player has entered the discussion and may raise some eyebrows...or I guess in this case, cowl brows. Batman: Arkham City is a game I'm definitely looking forward to since I'm a fan of the amazing first game [...]
