When someone sells something to you with comparisons to Atlas Sound and Kurt Vile, you know youre either going to be left ecstatic or mightily underwhelmed. Fortunately, in the case of Oliver Wilde, the former definitely applies. Perretts Brook, true to those comparisons, enters with that laconic, Vile-esq drawl, circling round unsettling, butchered fragments of guitar that would make Mr Bradford Cox himself proud. Were already sold, but then the track blossoms into a wall of sound which goes straight for the emotional jugular; it could even be Fuck Buttons at their as-yet-undiscovered tenderest depths. Bradford Cox is an interesting character. Most recently I encountered his singular rock and roll persona on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, when Deerhunter stopped by to play the title track from their most recent album, Monomania. Previously Cox has been quoted as saying that he doesnt like the idea of going on stage in jeans and a t-shirt, and the Fallon appearance was definitely in line with this sentiment. Garage-rockers, The Black Lips have revealed they're working on the follow-up to 20112s Arabia Mountain . The Atlanta group recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter , withbassist Jared Swilley confirming that the record will be co-produced by The Black Keys' Patrick Carney, who has worked with the likes of Tennis in the past. It's been a little over a month since Deerhunter debuted "Monomania" on the Jimmy Fallon show. With his face hiding behind a wig and what appeared to be a bandaged hand consisting of several severed fingers, frontman Bradford Cox stood front and center in a lengthy rockstar pose as he sang the new single.
