THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Thurston Moore w/ San Agustin Wednesday, February 8 Goat Farm - 1200 Foster Street NW in Atlanta 30318 Admission $15 / Purchase Tickets I don't really pay much attention to anything Thurston Moore does outside of his work with Sonic Youth , so this choice isn't based on any great love for him as a solo artist. And, really, nobody needs me to vouch for his talents as an artist, collaborator and performer, do they? I [...]
Do you hear that sound? That's the sound of some serious BADASSERY at work. It's the sort of sweltering psychedelic prog-rock storm that far too many bands attempt, but so few ever pull off. It's what the Mars Volta SHOULD sound like or, more aptly put, what they would sound like if they cared more about writing actual songs and less about pummeling you senseless with FIFTY THOUSAND NOTES and reveling in the glory of their own manic excesses. On their debut single, "Baby Eyes (Brainsurf Babality)," Atlanta's Brain appears willing to take similar chances with [...]
The word atmospheric often gets thrown around when discussing Lower Dens and their debut album, Twin-Hand Movement . It's a good descriptor-Jana Hunter and co. use their fuzzed-out, twangy guitars and low-fi vocals as a means to an somewhat ambient end-but it doesn't quite capture what it is that separates Lower Dens from a lot of formulaic new-wave, shoe-gaze. "Brains", a track of the upcoming album Nootropics , displays the bands ability to both create the atmosphere of Twin-Hand Movement , but also fill that sonic space with actual substance. The frantic drums combined with the mantric [...]
What you are looking at above is the mapped long-distance network of the Macaque monkey brain. Daily Galaxy on the significance of this : Modha and Raghavendra Singh (IBM Research-India) also found that the brain network does not appear to be "scale-free" like the web's social networks, which are logical and can grow without constraints, but seems to be "exponential," like air traffic networks, which are physical and must satisfy resource constraints. "This finding will help us design the routing architecture for a network of cognitive computing chips," they suggest. "The network [...]
Lower Dens – "Brains" Jana Hunter of Baltimore band Lower Dens has consistently been releasing some of my favorite music for the past 7 years, from two solo albums ( Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom , and There's No Home ) to Lower Dens' 2010 debut LP Twin-Hand Movement and their fantastic 2011 single Batman (one of my favorite songs of 2011 ). Lower Dens have just announced a new record, [...]
MP3: Lower Dens - Brains A new Lower Dens album in 2012? That's great news! They're calling it Nootropics and Ribbon Music is going to release it May 1st! But first - a single! "Brains" is the first peek of this highly anticipated beast and it will debut as a double 10" (with album track "Propagation" and b-side "Hours" along for the ride) which you can pre-order now - that's the art for it above. [...]
While the above artwork accompanying the below stream of Lower Dens' forthcoming single Brains may suggest a seismic shift in the Baltimore outfit's general interests and genuine intentions (a veer towards stadium-shaped arenas of the hopelessly soulless perhaps), any such trepidation is soon allayed as Jana Hunter's inimitably comforting baritone soothes through the core of five rock-solid minutes. Perhaps more abstract than the material encased within beauteous debut full-length Twin-Hand Movement (transhumanism now apparently accounts for a paramount influence), they remain as dynamic, diligent, and serenely efficient as ever, Nate Nelson's clicking hi-hats propelling vague washes of slackened [...]
First taste for the upcoming album from Jana Hunter and the Lower Dens, the Baltimore indie-rockers generated a lot of attention with their 2010 debut "Twin-Hand Movement" and saw Jana Hunter got her cult status increased. The 2nd LP Nootropics is out on Ribbon Music in the spring. Mp3 | Lower Dens - Brains
Lower Dens , have announced some exciting news today. They have their follow up album to 2010's Twin-Hand Movement (due out in Spring), as well as a brand new single, entitled "Brains". This is incredible nighttime music, with a heavy sense of dreamy waves driving in the background throughout. Everything will change. Everything Changes. Do You Believe?
Baltimore's Lower Dens have just offered up a download of their new song. The facebook update also mentions a new forthcoming album. Jana Hunter and company will be playing the Pyramid Scheme on March 7. From NPR: The music of Lower Dens is dark but spacious and hypnotic, with swaths of feedback and echoing guitars. At the heart is Jana Hunter, a Texas-born, Baltimore-based singer and songwriter whose delicate voice haunts every song. Tickets . For an extended preview - watch/listen to the [...]
Just as I was leaving work tonight, this new single from Lower Dens popped up on my Twitter feed, and I am quite thankful I stuck around to listen to it. "Brains" comes from the Baltimore band's new album Nootropics and builds upon the atmospheric lo-fi style they defined on their first album, which I still listen to regularly. No release date has been cemented for the album yet, but it's said to arrive sometime this spring on Ribbon Music. Nootropics comes on the heels of new band member Carter Tanton's highly lauded solo album [...]
Tweet Listen to and download the new Lower Dens track "Brains" below, taken from their upcoming album "Nootropics" . Tonight Lower Dens surprised the music-loving world by dropping a brand new song and at the same time announcing a brand new album. Whilst the band themselves didn't actually mention the album title, the ID3 tags on the MP3 they're giving away lists the album as being called "Nootropics" [...]

The Daily Choice: Lower Dens - Brains
Toss Lower Dens in to the pile of bands that I completely missed out on via their first pass and am now constantly reminding myself to pick up their album and then never doing so. This new track, "Brains" is so beautifully monotonous - the same quiet guitar and drum looming in the background of [...]
