Mad Decent's Jeffree's imprint celebrates its 32nd birthday with a 5-track remix EP of Foxsky's "The Whip." Just like my five-year-old self - mainlining rails of pixie dust while playing Super NES - Foxsky's original is an amphetamine-laced 8-bit monstrosity, one that kicks and screams at every game over. Diagnosed with ADD but never treated, Foxsky dabbles in a variety of genres, putting together a blend of dub and electro at a moombahton pace. The rest of EP is equally unique, enlisting ETC!ETC!, The Reef, Vass, and Udachi for remix duties. ETC!ETC! brings in the deep toms and trap [...]
The third track from Random Access Memories has been leaked. Recorded live during a private listening party, ”Giorgio by Moroder,” features an opening voice-over from Giorgio Moroder before dropping into a signature Daft Punk synth. While the source remains anonymous, there is also no doubt this is authentic. The opening narration uses direct quotes mentioned in track by track reviews from credible sources that have already reviewed the album. This recording may be subpar quality, but still offers an exciting unveiling of what many reviewers are identifying as one of album's strongest productions. [...]
Earlier today the New York Post reported that Pharrell had allegedly made statements regarding Daft Punk's future touring plans. According to Page Six, the "Get Lucky" collaborator made mention of hitting the road with Daft Punk "next year." These statements, however, were quickly refuted by Daft Punk's team in an official statement to Huffington Post citing that "no tour is planned." It is still plausible that Pharrell accidentally leaked information regarding the duo's upcoming tour. We're still confident that Daft Punk will be taking the stage sooner rather than later, especially with [...]
While Daft Punk may not have made a surprise appearance on stage at this year's Coachella , Thomas and Guy-Man were still in attendance in Indio doing an exclusive interview with Pete Tong. Teased on both Pete's Facebook page and Soundcloud, the long-awaited interview will be aired in its entirety at 9pm EST this Friday, May 10th. You just finished reading Pete Tong to air Daft Punk interview on BBC Radio 1 this Friday ! Consider leaving a comment!
Daft Punk continue to assert their return - and inevitable domination of dance music - as the release of Random Access Memories looms on the horizon. After becoming the most streamed piece of music in Spotify's history , 'Get Lucky' has just achieved UK Number 1 status, a first for Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and marks another milestone that the duo can add to an already laundry list of awards and accolades. Alright, we've avoided sharing all the bootlegs of this with. We shared that handheld recording of the Coachella teaser, but that was the best quality version we could get of the official teaser... Anyway, real instruments, funky music and Daft Punk with Pharrell . If you're in Minnesota, this song is sure to melt your mind's snow away.
Chicago City attorneys are taking an unprecedented step against a music venue this morning, bringing forth a hearing that could immediately close the iconic Congress Theater. The city is seeking an immediate injunction against Congress owner Erineo “Eddie” Carranza for failing to correct a dizzying list of 26 violations that have left the venue "dangerous and hazardous" for patrons, according to the city's Buildings, Fire and Health departments. The venue, which has hosted everyone from Deadmau5 to David Guetta to Duran Duran, is currently lacking approved fire extinguishers, missing railings to prevent [...]
Will.i.am's fourth studio album, #willpower , indicates strong electro-pop influences with lead singles including the Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello produced "This Is Love" and the Basto written "Scream & Shout." Other than these collaborators, Will.I.Am had no other EDM producers come to his aid - at least to their knowledge. Today, Will's VEVO uploaded the fifth track from the album, "Let's Go" alongside Chris Brown, and the preview has the dance music community up in arms. "Let's Go" appears to be a blatant ripoff of Arty and Mat Zo 's Anjunabeats release, "Rebound," and not just a [...]
In another u-turn for dance music and its reign over popular American culture, Patriots Point has banned all EDM shows after excessive noise complaints were received during Harbor City Fest on Thursday. At a time when the genre has continued to make loud noise across the nation, Alesso ’s headline efforts to a 3,100 strong-crowd were evidently too much for the South Carolina naval base, leading to the decision by the venues executive director Mac Burdette to ban all similar events from the venue. An official statement from Brudette explained: “We received numerous complaints about the noise level [...]

Dick Clark Productions, the entertainment production company behind the American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, and Golden Globes, is officially jumping on the EDM bandwagon. Since acquired last year by investment firm Guggenheim partners, DCP has seen its televised awards ceremonies hit record ratings. The production company is now looking to capitalize on the booming DJ/producer-led genre and keep the streak going. New York Post reports the DCP is currently shopping for a TV network to pick up the broadcast. In a world of DVR and Pirate Bay, live programming, like awards shows and sporting events, have become more [...]

I'm not going to get into a debate about the merits/legacy of Margaret Thatcher - this blog isn't the place for it. What did amuse me this afternoon was the image CNN news in America decided to go with when reporting on her death this afternoon. And no this isn't a joke - they really used this image:
Less than 24 hours before the gates to the 15th annual Ultra Music Festival are set to open, one of the stages has collapsed. There are reports that it also may have been one of the jumbotrons. The collapse occurred right before 8 p.m. this evening and Miami Fire Rescue crews were on the scene. We're working off local news reporting, so it is unclear exactly which stage it is but there is confirmation that multiple people have been injured. More news here as it develops. Despite multiple reports to the contrary, trusted sources have reported that mogul Robert Sillerman ’s SFX Entertainment’s buying spree of top electronic dance music entities has hit a major roadblock as the largest South Beach nightlife operator, The Opium Group - which owns hotspots Mansion, SET, Mokai and Cameo - has walked away from a recent deal . This comes to light on the same week that The Opium Group has announced a grand-reopening of South Beach staple, SET, which has undergone a complete renovation and will feature shows by Arty , Bob Sinclar and [...]
According to the New York Times Media Decoder, SFX Entertainment has just purchased Beatport for "a little more than 50m." The move is just another step in CEO Robert Sillerman's plans to build a billion dollar EDMpire. With a history of acquisitions like Disco Donnie Presents and Life In Color as well as his recent investments into Miami nightlife and the festival circuit, the move comes as little surprise; “Beatport gives us direct contact with the D.J.’s and lets us see what’s popular and what’s not,” Mr. Sillerman said in an interview. “Most important, it gives [...]
Early this morning Daft Punk changed their Facebook profile picture and cover photo to what is rumored to be their new album's artwork. The picture doesn’t say much besides confirming the album will be released via Columbia Records, which is owned by Sony Music Entertainment. The update caused a flurry of activity on the page, which hasn't been updated since March of 2012. This will be Thomas and Guy's first album since 20052s EMI Records release Human After All and will feature game changing forces within the entertainment industry. We first caught [...]

To be honest, this lineup is one of my all around favorites that have been announced thus far - not including the big three of course - Bonnaroo , Lollapalooza , and Coachella . I would put Firefly in the second tier of festivals, not for lack of quality but due to it only being it's second year of existence. I have no doubt that one day Firefly Music Festival will be a festival force to be reckoned with. The artists they have/will be putting on stage in it's first two years is almost unheard of. It [...]

Bonnaroo is kickin' it old school this year with the likes of Paul McCartney , Tom Petty , and Billy Idol to name a few of the rock legends that will be present. As a side thought, this might be the year to check out the comedy stage if you have a little free time. Daniel Tosch , Weird Al , and Ed Helms will all be making an appearance. Let us know who you're most excited for. Anyone left out that you wanted to see included?
In typical Grammy's fashion, this year Skrillex won before the party even started. The 55th annual Grammy awards kicked off its pre-telecast early Sunday afternoon, getting some of The Academy's who cares awards out of the way before the televised extravaganza began. Among the pre-show awards given out were Best Classical Compendium, Best Historical Album, and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. It was that last category that Sonny swooped the Grammy for, winning alongside Nero's Joseph Ray and Daniel Stephens for their remix of "Promises." After chugging through more categories (Best Gospel Song, Best Comedy [...]
