Brian Bond has been one of my favourite singer/songwriters ever since his beautiful album, Ten Thousand Songs landed in my inbox. Released in 2009, that EP still gets a lot of play at my place. So when I received a copy of Your Love is Strange I cleared my day, put on a pot of tea and sat back and prepared myself for a quiet afternoon of entertaining music. And I was not disappointed. I've been listening to this album for the last few weeks and have [...]

New Brunswick's Communipaw has just released their self titled debut. That's not all though. The indie rock group has decided, like many other artists today, to give it away for free! Communipaw is doing this through a partnership with Sound as Language , a South Carolina music blog that promotes independent music. Simply head over to Sound as Language , click on the album cover and get to downloading. Feel free to preview a track off the record titled "Take Over" below. Though the group does not currently have any shows scheduled, they do [...]

Well, we are three days into the new year and here I am looking back at 2009 instead of forward into 2010. As always I'm a bit late to the gate. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday and that the next year will bring lots of music into your lives. As Nietzsche said, "Without music life would be a mistake." The year 2009 was interesting for sure. We saw Lady Gaga burst slowly onto the scene (her debut single took 22 weeks to climb to the top of the [...]

Cover art is often a good descriptor of what may reside within an album, but it is not always the case. A prime example is Fire And Gold by Brian Bond . The cover can truly be labeled as art and gives the appearance that the original piece is mixed media. To me, this type of cover gives the vision of something bordering on the avant garde. But Brian Bond's music occupies a place far from the avant garde label. Instead, Bond can be labeled as [...]
"Ten Thousand Songs - EP" by Brian Bond is different. It's acoustic, it's simple, some songs are incredible, others are merely fabulous, and it was recorded on ¼" analog tape. There are no bells and whistles, no endless studio overdubs, no endless layering of guitars or vocals, no reverbs/delays or other recording embellishments, no editing, and no post-production tweaking. This EP is sparse, simple, clean and most important of all, real. The 30-yr. old tape machine this was recorded on really shows the difference between analog and digital. I don't care what anyone else says, [...]
Just who is Brian Bond and why is he so awesome? Well, Will from Sound As Language (also of Beartrap PR who works with Brian Bond) has been raving about Brian for some time now and I've got to agree. His recently released full-length Fire & Gold is easily one of my favorite albums of 2009 thus far. It straddles the line between fairly standard (albeit amazing) singer-songwriter fare and indie-folktronica in way that reminds me of a lush(er) more augmented version of Denison Witmer's Philadelphia Songs . [...]
