Gone are the days of 90's Britpop, but somehow, West Country boys, 'Towns' are bringing a hefty essence of the genre back. There's been a gaping space in the music field for a while now, missing that throwback. Sure we've had the revival of the Gallagher siblings in their new ventures, but 'Towns' are unmarked and fresh with no cuts or scrapes from previous bands and bust ups. Just what we need for 2012. Veronica Falls is a young band. There is the group taking pictures of itself! Oh you do not want to miss those first steps. All those loose meandering's on a guitar, bright harmony's recorded! The world could take notice one day, these paintings will be priceless! These infant moments of fledgling bands feel incredible to all the members involved. Pity that I am not the bass player! If I was a contributor, maybe I could share in the hidden magic! I have no such luck, it seems neither do you. Harsh words I know. I do have some very [...]
Dreamy Brit pop-esque rockers Blah Blah Blah have returned with a new video for their single "As Soon As I Get Home Tonight," from their album Thank You Thank You . The video is light-hearted enough to match the upbeat mood of the song. It features keyboardist Phill Ferguson going for a stroll around Chicago, proving that bartering is alive and well as he trades harmonicas for wigs and cat lamps for nunchucks. I would have kept that lamp, bro. "As Soon As I Get Home Tonight" is available for free download via [...]
![[Introducing] – Niteflights](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4014025_lg.jpg)
Tweet With a fresh, exhuberant sound, Niteflights are guaranteed to get your 2012 kicking right into gear. My first exposure to them was when they shared their brilliant cover of John Cale 's "Paris 1919 ", and was instantly pleased with what I heard. For me, the true test of a great cover is when someone can take a song and make it their own, which Niteflights are able to do while still staying true to the original. [...]
The second in a new series looking back at classic Britpop albums investigates Kula Shaker's K.

Three reasons to rouse from your slumber for a delightful rock show at Double Door tonight... 1. Chicago power poppers Daemon Familiar certainly have an apt name. The trio contains trace amounts of such familiar artists as the Beatles and Cheap Trick, but with less than serious song titles that are generally named after celebrities like "Oprah" and Bangles lead singer "Susanna Hoffs." LISTEN: " Oprah ." 2. If The Day [...]

"Holy State joined the ever expanding Brew Records roster earlier this month. The gritty post-punk merchants formed in 2008 and offer a constant array of loud & warm dynamics. Their debut full length LP and UK tour is planned for April 2012. After previous tours with Rolo Tomassi, Blood Red Shoes & being hand selected by Biffy Clyro to join them on their UK arena dates, Holy State have cemented their place in the dynamic UK music scene". With the resurgence of London`s [...]

"Suitcase," the latest single from Sheffield based group Standard Fare , has an addicting, fun, and carefree sound to it. It also, according to blog Migrate , is about the holocaust. So engrossing is the beat, and flow of "Suitcase" that the content of the lyrics fly right over your head. Listening to it a second time, you can pick up on the story, and the haste behind it all. What was carefree and fun is replaced by an air of urgency, and fear. The bright guitar and fast drums are there to urge the protagonist to run, to go faster [...]

I had a rough start to my Monday. A bad nights sleep full of restless dreams (stupid flying bears) and the consumption of too many fermented beverages over the weekend left me feeling a little... magoo. Looking for a pick me up I went slugging around the songs I've posted in the past. Gentlemen Rogues and their upbeat power-pop-post-punk was just what I needed. Fast, light, upbeat, something to get those brain juices flowing again. A large cup of coffee, two ibuprofen and a healthy dose of "We Can't Stop Moving" and I'm feeling right as rain. [...]

Secret Colours seem to be one of the few consistently great independent bands that have suffered the injustice of being overlooked by the music listener. I'd be lying if I told you I've been keeping up with their output for the past few years, but I'd be telling the God's honest truth if I said that each time I check in with them, I'm never disappointed. If you've tasted a psychedelic/post-psychedelic cocktail – it's a metaphor, hopefully for most of you – and always come out feeling less than excited, Secret Colours are probably what you've been searching for. I [...]

Big Beat, Psychedelic Brit Pop, and Phil Spector's wall of sound drums converg on this track from Jagwar Ma. So in essence, we cover a lot of musical history in this one track and just like all good works of art; Jagwar Ma makes it all sound seamless. Jagwar Ma - Come Save Me Come Save Me by Jagwar Ma

Metronomy's "The Look," besides being my go-to track for when someone asks me what "electronic indie's version of top 403 is, was one of the best light Britpop tunes of 2011. A niche categorization, maybe, but it was a nice appetizer to what the rest of the day had in mind. Camo & Krooked's remix takes it up a notch and turns on two or three extra dimensions of funk. It ends a minute or so too soon for my taste - keep it going, C&K!! - but it's good while it lasts. Buy [...]
I love bands, such as The Concretes and The Bird & The Bee, who combine catchy electro-pop with airy dream-pop. British "pop-noir trio" The Good Natured does exactly that on their new album, Skeleton. What sets The Good Natured's songs apart is the occasional splash of exotic strings or thunderous, syncopated beats. I'm enjoying this [...]

Kate Bush's snowy odyssey wades too far into the drift.

As we head into Thanksgiving, I just have to give a shout out and say thanks to the Leeds band, The Kaiser Cheifs. Last summer, the band released their fourth album and it came out in the most unique way that I have ever seen a band put out music to date . You start here. From this link, your adventure begins in creating your own version of the album. Choose the track list, running order, artwork, and design it all yourself. Then download. The cost? £7.50 or roughly 12 bucks for 10 [...]
