I am genuinely curious how New Yorkers manage to survive and thrive as regular human beings when they're surrounded by so many tempting musical events. After traveling into Brooklyn on Thursday night for Earmilk's own Night Rumours club night, I made my way to Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) on Friday and Saturday, and no amount of coffee can quite revive me today after partying until 4 am three days in a row. By midnight on Saturday, my feet were in so much pain (even in flats) that if I had stopped dancing for even a moment, I [...]

Plaid is not just for hipsters, country music stars, your grandfather, or Scottish kilts. That statement was not meant to offend, nothing beats wearing a heavy plaid button down on a cold New York City day like today, but I am not talking about anything clothing related. The Plaid I'm speaking of is the group of two master curators and creators of sound, the London based duo, Andy Turner and Ed Handley. Apologies, but I must take a few minutes to gush about how phenomenal these two musicians are. A friend introduced me to Plaid about three years [...]
The holidays are almost upon us and, despite what corporations bludgeoning our sense with advertising and massive angry mobs camped outside Walmarts across America with credit cards in their hands and murder in their eyes will have you believe, this is the time of year to give back. One way we at Nicky Digital are giving back is by giving two lucky readers a pair of two-day passes to MeanRed 's Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival this weekend!
This week's Concert Calendar recommendations for the LMB NYC heads....

In its third year, it looked like the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF, pronounced either B-E-M-F or simply BEMF depending on who you asked) was stacking decks against anything else possible in the borough on Saturday, combining the talents of over 30 acts--DJ's and performers who fell under the umbrella of the general "electronic" jargon--and [...]
The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, held at Music Hall of Williamsburg (MHOW) and Public Assembly (PA), was formatted more like a showcase one would find at CMJ or SXSW than a traditional festival. It was perfect to have these venues next door to each other, because they both provided completely different vibes. MHOW, with its [...]
As he is taking to the decks tomorrow at the Cubano Cafe stage of the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) in Williamsburg, our dear old pal Spectacal got in touch with us with this very brief, twelve minute mixtape he drummed up featuring Mt. Kimbie, Al Tourettes, Model 500 and a few more. He hopes [...]
None of what you will see, hear, touch, smell or taste at this year's or the previous years' Brooklyn Electronic Music Festivals would be possible without Famous Friends head and lead production person behind the events, Ruth Heronemus. She is a wizard behind the curtain, but you should definitely be paying attention to her. From her perch atop the Famous Friends empire, Ruth is the first non-musician we've allowed our questionnaire to be filled out by, and we couldn't be more proud to open up the floor to her.
Since last we checked in with this year's epic two-venue party for the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival--BEMF, as it were--the gang have solidified a huge sponsorship with Vitamin Water, have added a ton of new talent and have sold-out early bird tickets. Confirmed now for the night of December 18 (next Saturday), new acts include [...]
Things seem to be shaping up at the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival taking place in New York City's best borough on December 18th at Music Hall of Williamsburg and Public Assembly. Today BEMF's promoters announced the addition of Azari and III to the lineup which includes headliners Sinden, Kid Sister, Penguin Prison, Treasure Fingers, Javelin, [...]
Pronounced "oh" (or something, whatever) the musical platform for Christopher Dexter Greenspan, oOoOO makes ghostly music where the "ghostly" portion isn't masking the music or shrouding it in a veil that makes image over content the argument. With no tours yet, a huge online Internet push from the blogosphere and a new EP out on the trusted Tri Angle imprint, Mr Greenspan evokes mysticism and the occult but nothing so much as invoking the idea of shadowy, good music. Get into it now and get excited for December 18, where he'll be appearing along with a litany of other party-starters [...]
The brothers Perlick-Molinari are at the helm of Milwaukee-then-Brooklyn act French Horn Rebellion, a group that easily surf a wave of disco pop, dance rock, yacht rock and psychedelia, and an act that we've been fans of for as long as we can remember. We called them "Emerging" two years ago or so and since then, the kids have only gotten better, reached farther and further into the pop consciousness and made some of the better pop music tunes we've heard since those days in 2008.
CREEP is the duo of DJ and producer Lauren Flax and her compatriot Lauren Dillard and together, the duo make dark, ghostly, intense electronic music that spans genres and emotions. A new project that's still shrouded in as much mystery as the duo are shrouded in cloth when they appear in a live setting, there's no telling just what to expect at this year's Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, but we're sure it's going to be amazing. Miss Flax graciously answered our questionnaire, and we learned a ton about her love of domesticity, Portishead and a near-$300 phone bill.
