Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]

Welcome to day two of psych pop week here at the Finest Kiss. No we won't be going down memory lane talking about bands like the Zombies , Love , Left Bank , the Elephant 6 Collective , or Witch Hazel . Instead we'll be covering some new records that dip their feet into the psychedelic ink jar. Today we have Brown Recluse from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formerly Brown Recluse Sings, but who's ever heard of a singing spider so they've dropped the sings. [...]

by Bill Pearis DOWNLOAD : Brown Recluse - Night Train (MP3) DOWNLOAD : Brown Recluse - Contour and Context (MP3) Philadelphia septet Brown Recluse play Sunday night (9/27) at Cake Shop , hot on the heels of their new EP The Soft Skin which was just released on Slumberland. It's sunny orch-pop in the same vein as '60s band The Zombies, The Sneetches, [...]

Philadelphia locals Brown Recluse Sings has released a 12" record of new songs through their label, Slumberland Records, this month. This EP news rides on the coattails of the announcement that their release of a debut full-length album through Slumberland will be released soon after (scheduled for late 2009) as well. The songs from their newly released EP, The Soft Skin, were all recorded in 2007, but due to delays in lineup changes, among other things, the EP hadn't been released until this month. It includes four tracks, that range from the lush orchestration of opener [...]

This is pretty much a MEGA-WEEK of new releases, so music fans: expect your wallet to get hit hard. Not even counting that slew of newly-remastered Beatles discs, there's still a boatload of stuff- lots of it from big, classic indie names: there's the new Circulatory System , Merge is dropping both the new Clean album AND the new Polvo , there's Os Mutantes ' all-new Haih , and Yo La Tengo 's Popular Songs is out today as well. On top of that, [...]
Brown Recluse Sings - Night Train

We here at Citizen Dick HQ get a lot of music crossing our desks and filling our headphones and sometimes, despite our very best efforts, we just can't get to everything. Speaking for myself, one of the first things that tends to determine the importance that I assign to some new releases is whether it is a full-length effort or not. Call my biased, maybe even foolish, but I tend to hold the full-length efforts in higher regard, or at least give them fuller attention. Even I, however, know that doing so can occasionally be a stupid mistake, so periodically [...]
[ download ] Philadelphia's Brown Recluse are working on their debut full-length record (to be released on Slumberland sometime in 2010), but in the meantime, the sextet will be serving an amuse bouche in the form of the four song The Soft Skin EP. This release, which will be available digitally and on vinyl on September 8th, was actually recorded in 2007, so it will be interesting to hear how the band grows between albums. As "Contour and Context" illustrates, the band already excels at their genre, namely [...]

Blogophilia Vol. 9 This edition of Blogophilia features new tracks off unreleased albums from Arctic Monkeys and the Flaming Lips, a couple of rockers from the Henry Clay People and We Were Promised Jetpacks (yet another good Scottish band, Scotland's best export is Rock-n-Roll I guess), and a subtle Blogophilia tribute to John Hughes with a cover of Pretty in Pink by the National. Total running time is 79:03. For those burning onto CDs, you may need to utilize the overburn feature on your burning software. Download by right click/save on the artwork above. [...]

Yikes, this list is extensive. A lot of groups MySpace labeled as punk/country are out there this week as well as ones from North Carolina. We're not here to focus on things like that though, ... Not only is this a cool indie pop jamboree but it was also ingeniously released via the Dead Format label whose roster consists solely of albums put out on cassette tape (what a strange time for the music industry but give me tape over CD any day, hey you, it isn't rendered totally useless if you don't like the recording, just stick some balled up paper in its ears and hey presto you have the raw materials for a great mixtape). Anyway, back to the spider lovers and their 'Contour and Context' composition. Stuff like this will block up my [...]

Three for free! Enjoy these tunes and check back often because there's plenty more to come. ------------------------- Wild Beasts - All the King's Men (MP3) Fresh off their acclaimed 2008 debut, the excellent Limbo, Panto , Wild Beasts are back with a quick followup LP entitled Two Dancers . The album already has a good deal of press surrounding in the UK, and if you'll take the time to download the record's first single, " All the King's [...]

These guys were all over the blogosphere last week and after finally hearing them this weekend I can see why. Philly's Brown Recluse combine a bit of chamber pop with their indie pop and create a sound worth listening to. A little bit of Belle and Sebastian, a little bit of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin all rolled up into a ball of awesomeness. MP3: Brown Recluse - Contour and Context

Casiokids - "Gomur Mamma" ; Tonight we get to see Casiokids on the Seaport stage, but before that we have been treated to the B-side from their recently released single, "Finn Bikkjen!". The song another series of impressive arrangement from the Norwegians, a song built on strange space age sounds and loops, but on that will no doubt have you dancing on Pier 17 tonight. Grade : B - Brown Recluse Sings - "Contour and Context" ; Summery, light, and pleasant right from [...]
