Philadelphia locals Brown Recluse Sings has released a 12" record of new songs through their label, Slumberland Records, this month. This EP news rides on the coattails of the announcement that their release of a debut full-length album through Slumberland will be released soon after (scheduled for late 2009) as well. Not only is this a cool indie pop jamboree but it was also ingeniously released via the Dead Format label whose roster consists solely of albums put out on cassette tape (what a strange time for the music industry but give me tape over CD any day, hey you, it isn't rendered totally useless if you don't like the recording, just stick some balled up paper in its ears and hey presto you have the raw materials for a great mixtape). These guys were all over the blogosphere last week and after finally hearing them this weekend I can see why. Philly's Brown Recluse combine a bit of chamber pop with their indie pop and create a sound worth listening to.
