Top 21? But weren't there 25 last year ? Well yes. And it was only 15 the year before that . In case you haven't noticed, we're not that rigid around here - all we really care about is letting you know what we're loving right now and that's about it. If we only fall for one record next year then you can probably expect "WiAC's Top 1 Album of 20113. It'll be a good one, though. We promise. That said, this year was a great year for music. But it was great in a different [...]

Filed under: The Hit List One of our favorite parts about creating this list of top albums was reflecting on how unpredictable the year was. Be it '90s alt-rockers returning to form, music legends unearthing lost classics, Swedish indie artists producing pop jewels, cartoon bands coming out behind the curtain or disgraced rappers getting to give a "toast for the douchebags," 2010 kept our eclectic and [...]

Filed under: News Even if you've sworn off watching the Grammy Awards , every year the nominees and winners will end up on your radar thanks to the massive influence of the ceremony. Last year, the big winners in the rock category were Kings of Leon , who took home Best Rock Performance by a group and Best Rock Song, while Bruce Springsteen , Phoenix and Green Day also received statues. The [...]

Going down, down, down As we discovered this week, there's more than one way to go down. Watch Listen Love. (No commas) *Vampire Weekend is now covering Bruce Springsteen's classic "I'm Going Down" from Born in the U.S.A. All the way to the Garden State! Maybe we will see VW next time at the Jersey Shore, whence we sent our own Greetings from Asbury Park on Sunday. *Too bad this duo beat them to the punch. [...]
LISTEN/DOWNLOAD: Kanye West & Raekwon Remix Justin Bieber's "Runaway Love" I'm sure it must be worrisome how many times I've had to use this Justin Bieber tag on this blog, without regretting it. While the Biebz isn't being slowed down by 800% and sounding like Sigur Ros , Kanye West and Raekwon are rapping alongside his vocals for "Runaway Love" over the " Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nothing ta Fuck Wit" beat. Two of the albums that I listened to over & over again while away on my trip to Europe were Arcade Fire's two albums Neon Bible & Funeral so it comes as no surprise that when I heard the new album The Suburbs was coming out I was elated. I knew it would be a good album, but I had no idea it would be this good. While not as good as Funeral it is miles better than Neon Bible , an album I love. [...]
If Funeral was the personal homage to life, love, and loss, as Neon Bible was a straight shot at the gut of political immoral corruption, then Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs is merely a simple acknowledgment of the two concepts. Not to mention, the powerful realization that "we can't run from our upbringing", especially when two-story brick houses and shopping malls stand in our way. The band's third album is obsessed with this concept, but musically it serves as another success.

100b

Once upon a long, long time ago, I was sent out this book to have a read and review. Then there was all this real life stuff and 100b was pretty much abandoned, book reviewing and all. Many apologies to all involved and I'd almost call it too late to bother, but a deal is a deal. Plus, I just found out that this book will be newly available in paperback in October, so I'm going to call it better late than never. The book in question is Robert Hilburn's Corn Flakes [...]
A few weeks ago, to kick-off the Memorial Day holiday, we launched our first summer mixtape of 2010. Due to the huge success of that mix, we started work on putting together Mix No. 2 shortly thereafter - and here are the results (work on Mix No. 3 is already in progress). Obviously, these summer [...] Related posts:Halloween Indie Rock Songs, Vol I: Arctic Monkeys, Spoon, The Kissaway Trail, Flaming Lips, Beach House, Cat Power... Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Over the last decade, thanks to nods from the Arcade Fire and the Hold Steady , among others, Bruce Springsteen has earned the respect of 20-something Brooklynites, a core section of the audience at cover band Bruce in the USA's show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg Friday night. In light of the Boss' newfound hipness, Friday's show posed an interesting question: How would New York City's cool kids respond to Bruce in the USA, which bills itself [...]

10 . Prince - The Rainbow Children (2001) Jazzy, funky, and dipping deeply into P's then new-found life as a Jehovah's Witness, this album connected with me more than any Prince album of the 00's (and nope, no JW am I). As much as the 54 second "Wedding Feast" makes me cringe, the album makes up for it with great tracks like "Digital Garden", "The Work, Pt. 13, and "The Sensual Everafter". Favorite tune : " 1+1+1 is 3 " (mp3) - to [...]

The year 2009 marked the final chapter in what had been music's most fascinating decades. But we don't have to tell you that - the examples speak for themselves. A combination of Internet protocol, aka BitTorrents, and a band named Radiohead led to the destruction of the music industry as we knew it. A rapper from Chicago managed to become both the most talented and the most despised individual on Earth, while a Detroit rocker proved this generation could have a sure-fire Rock 'n' Roll Hall-of-Famer. The Grammys became a joke and something called a "blog" became required reading. Oh, [...]

Part Five of my countdown of the top 110 albums of the decade, and we're not even half-way there. You can find 110-101 here , 100-91 here , 90-81 here , and 80-71 here . But for now, here's 70-61... 70. Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006) Bruce Springsteen's most outlandish album of his career is also one of his best. A departure from everything else he's ever done, his [...]
