Joe writes: I didn't go to SXSW this year but I did download a couple of compilations of bands playing the event and felt I wasn't missing much until I heard Song For Zula. Then I saw it on Xfm's playlist, then in Spotify's "most viral" chart, then I discovered it was on Grey's Anatomy, all in the past 24 hours. What a beautiful piece of music, with echoes of Bette Midler's The Rose, Streets Of Philadelphia, and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

We're big fans of Tom Morello, best known as the guitarist for Rage Against The Machine. With Rage on indefinite hiatus, Morello has turned up in various incarnations: as part of Street Sweeper Social Club with rapper Boots Riley, and as the Nightwatchman. Today is Tom's birthday - Happy birthday, Tom! During SXSW a few months ago we were lucky to catch a Morello/Nightwatchman show, up close and personal at Threadgill's beer garden. We still have SXSW hangover, so bear with us a few days. In the meantime, here's one of the highlights of our entire experience: Eric Burdon of the Animals guesting with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, on "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place."

I watched this in it's entirety on Saturday morning and thought it might be worthy to share. Listen to Bruce Springsteen as he talks about the evolution of music and his role within it. It's so well done and a must-watch for anyone who is committed to this lifestyle/ideology of music. Loved it when he mentioned that story about Elvis being the last big rock star that we would all agree on, "you have your heros, I have mine". Really enjoyable.

SXSW has come and gone again. It's speculated over 200,000 people littered the streets of Austin for the music lover's paradise, but I remember by Saturday morning, my liver had all but gone out on me and my feet begged me to not leave the hotel. For those of you that braved all week, we salute you. Some of the more memorable items that I caught wind of is Bruce Springsteen bringing the kitchen sink on stage to cover Woody Guthrie's classic, "This Is Your Land." MUSIC NEWS - The keynote address by NJ's BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN this week at SXSW, where he takes us through the history of rock and roll, and his personal relationship with it.   

The Boss delivered the keynote speech at SXSW down in Austin this week, and it's definitely worth a watch. As with much of his music, Springteen's speech is centered around great story-telling. It also comes with a nice dose of Rock and Roll history. Descriptive, thoughtful, inspiring. Good stuff.

After over two hours of Bruce and his boys at SXSW, the set closed with this: a cover of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" with special guests Arcade Fire, Tom Morello, the Low Anthem, and others. It looks like a heartwarming performance that makes you want to drink a cheap beer, pump a fist, hug somebody, then go buy some land and fix up a broken truck.
