Matt Costa plays in his hometown during the tour of his self-titled album.

Matt Costa seems like a pretty practical man. The former skateboarder turned singer-songwriter keeps things relatively simple in his music, from lyrics to composition, and definitely with album titles. His latest release is the self-titled Matt Costa , which came out last week on Brushfire Records. His fourth release on Brushfire (best known as Jack Johnson's record label), the album stays pretty consistent with Costa's previous releases. His use of simple melodies and apparent affinity for some sweet, [...]

è uscito per Brushfire Records Palindrome Hunches, il terzo album di Neil Halstead (ex Slowdive e Mojave 3, vale sempre la pena ricordarlo):

We have had much love for Neil Halstead since back in his days with Slowdive (who might be reuniting !!!), Mojave 3, and with his excellent solo albums. His third solo album, Palindrome Hunches , is will be released on September 11th through Brushfire Records . The LP was produced by Nick Holton and recorded with "The Band Of Hope”, some friends of Halstead's hailing from Wallingford in the UK. The first single from the record is the beautifully intimate cut "Full Moon Rising". To go along with the intimate [...]
"Tuesday on Turntable.FM Neil Halstead will be spinning a few new songs from his upcoming album 'Palindrome Hunches' and some favorites from his earlier work with Slowdive and Mojave 3 and more... 4PM PST (via Brushfire Records)."
Enchanting English songwriter Neil Halstead - the guy behind 90s dreampop favorites Slowdive, country-tinged aughts outfit Mojave 3, and the solo album Sleeping on Roads, one of the most criminally overlooked records of the past ten years - is returning to Philadelphia this fall. He'll play World Cafe Live on Oct. 3, the perfect time ... Continue reading
Ex-Slowdive mastermind Neil Halstead returns after four years with a new full-length, Palindrome Hunches, due September 11 on Brushfire. This B-side, entitled “Tennis for Dennis”, will be featured on a free seven-inch single that accompanies Halstead’s forthcoming album. For those still clinging to the idea that Halstead will re-emerge with his groundbreaking arsenal of effect pedals and expansive future pop a la Souvlaki , you should probably throw-in the towel. His new material is as folk-pop as ever.

Full Moon Rising is the first track from Cornwall, England-based Neil Halstead's upcoming solo album, Palindrome Hunches . His third album was produced by Nick Holton and recorded with "The Band Of Hope”, some friends of Halstead's hailing from Wallingford in the UK. The intimate and gentle track is a continuation of the folk-pop that Halstead is known for. Stream and download the track below. Palindrome Hunches is out September 11th on Brushfire Records .

[mp3] Bahamas: "I Got You Babe" We've been watching the development of Bahamas , aka Afie Jurvanen, since his last outing Pink Strat . Today Bahamas drops Barchords via Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records, and plays a release day show at the Mercury Lounge at 7pm. From all accounts, Jurvanen is a captivating live performer and we're looking forward to checking out the show and continuing to dig into Barchords . You can get a sense of the organic approach Jurvanen takes to his writing in [...]

For 25-year-old Malaysian singer/songwriter Zee Avi, "Swell Window" is the gorgeous track that started the journey and also the opening track of her second album, G hostbird . "It's a song about seizing the moment," she says, "and for me, a new direction and a new voice came and stayed." In the two years since her self-titled debut was joint-released on Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records and Ian Montone's Monotone Label, Avi's very free spirit has wandered from major music festivals (SXSW, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo) to huge tours (Lilith Fair) back to her homeland of Sarawak, Borneo Island, where [...]

For the first time Avi will bring out the soothingly beautiful Malaysian Sape, a unique string instrument indigenous to her hometown of [...]

Tweet We’ve known Zach Schwartz (alias Zach Rogue) from Rogue Wave for a while now, ever since his failure in a grueling dot-com business venture landed him in the studio, cranking out the cloudy pop tunes that would become Rogue Wave’s first album, “Out Of The Shadow.” Seven years later and after much praise and deals from both Sub Pop and Brushfire Records , Jack Johnson’s label, well-known for featuring sunny California acts such as Matt Costa and Mason Jennings, Rogue [...]
An evening in the charmingly intimate Swedish American Hall with Zach Rogue and his new project Release the Sunbird? Yes, please!
Tweet Back in 2007 there were a multitude of artists being discovered and quickly snapped up by record labels via YouTube. These artists would record their own jams or covers and then post them to the site, many of which were fucking horrendous but one of the ones who made it out that actually had talent was Zee Avi , a Malaysian singer-songwriter with a slant for the infectiously relaxing. The mix between her airy vocals, child-like exuberance, light and upbeat sound, and [...]
We're pleased to see Zach Rogue take some initiative and record an album that harkens back to early Rogue Wave.
