When I saw Grimes open for Austra last year, I saw a meek DIY artsy girl dressed in a grungy t-shirt and dark tights wail into a microphone while expertly mixing complex tracks to produce a seriously rhythmic dance spell. 2011 was a good year for dance music, but 2012 looks like an even better one. A plethora of dance/electronic releases are on the horizon — everything from albums and mix compilations by up-and-coming artists to full-lengths and compendiums by acts with proven track records. Burial - Kindred EP Hyperdub recently announced that there'd be new material from Burial coming in 2012, and yesterday, in their mailout to their subscribers, a few more details became clear. Burial's Kindred EP is coming in January and it'll feature three tracks - 'Kindred' on the A side, and 'Loner' and 'Ashtray Wasp' on the B. Album #6: Biophilia by Bjork Bjork's ambitious Biophilia project, highlighted by the release of an "app" album, was problematic on a number of levels. Well finals are finally over with, which means I've officially made it to my last semester as an undergraduate.
