The young Sangoma Music imprint from Cambridge is ready to drop their number two. This time turning to label honcho Nik Frattaroli for the goods, with only Rio Padice stepping up to the remix plate. Frattaroli being an ex Mancunian, has house music running through his blood stream and a heavy supply of cultural influence to rely on for inspiration, which shows through in every moment of the record. Tipping his hat to the true sound of Manchester on Clear Blue with a smooth acid bass line that doesn't get too self indulgent reaffirming his strong [...]

"VIOLET BONES are a rock 'n' roll band from Cambridge — packing an incredible amount of passion, energy, animation and spirit into their sing-along garage-pop anthems. Their fierce DIY ethic and constant touring across the UK has earned them support slots with punk heroes New York Dolls and Ash". Great band on the verge of a debut album release, it`s nice to receive the odd promotional email concerning an artist that will be gigging somewhere near to home. Sure Los Angeles, New York or Sydney all have masses of iconic appeal but The Grinning Rat [...]

Try pressing alt j on an Apple keyboad, I'll do it now: ∆ This is the name of a stunning new band from one of two knowledge capitals in the UK, Cambridge. Well at least that's what their Soundcloud page says. Perhaps just one band member was born there, since the quartet actually first met at Leeds University whilst studying fine art. After spending the last two years studying and rehearsing in the basement of a tiny terraced house, they signed to Infectious Records in November 2011. I'd just heard [...]

Got a bit of a Ben Howard special for you today folks, that wasn't meant to be a pun, honest… As you may well have gathered by this stage we here at HMCMB are huge fans of the Devonshire singer songwriter, his album, "Every Kingdom" being one of my favourites of 2011, more about that HERE . I was lucky enough to catch him live at The Junction, Cambridge last Thursday, in a show that more than exceeded already high expectations. It was pleasing to see just how many people had turned up, from a [...]

Grieves and Budo hit the subterranean confines of Cambridge's Middle East downstairs on Monday. The duo performed their big energy, multi-genre influenced hip hop at a high level leaving the mostly full venue (not bad for a Monday night) no doubt satisfied. Opening the set were frat rap duo Boom Box, the guys seemed to have difficulty connecting with the kids as they, in ever-increasingly futile attempts to rouse the disinterested crowd, doused water out from the stage. "You guys like dubstep?" asked one of the MCs to a mostly negative response. The rappers still went on with the song [...]

So. You may or may not know that one of the HMCMB fold is lucky (read clever, diligent and hardworking) enough to be studying at Cambridge university. This would probably explain said member's lack of posting of late, we forgive him though, hopefully he'll end up making millions and i'll (Tom) be able to sponge off him and continue to plug music I love until i'm old, grey and continuously harking back to the 'good old days'. I can't wait. Benjamin Francis Leftwich, of our favourite artists at the moment here at HMCMB was set to [...]
