Chicago's psych pop great Jeff Walls just gave me a heads-up to the latest offering of his project Campfires , a nine-track cassette named Slaughter Tropes that contains both brief instrumental musings and his signature lo-fi jangling anthems, of which I enjoyed "Distant Hills" the most (a wonderful Revolver -era Beatles homage) but that is truly rewarding all along the line. It's quite a delightful rock anthem and for some reason I'm in love with the way the song begins. There's something catchy and inviting about it. The third Manchester International Festival is well underway and Bowlegs has been getting involved in the cultural celebrations by checking out the world premiere of Björk's 'Biophilia' live show. "In celebration of the summer solstice", Chicago's Jeff Walls aka Campfires sent over the link to this marvelously splendid jangle pop tune that was obviously made right on time for those lush days ahead of us. Amelia , which will appear on the forthcoming Two Syllable Records compilation, is a perfectly psychedelic aural wonderland, appropriately hazy and melodic, tailor-made for just about every summerish pastime.
