Dinosaurs and our first Canadian postcard! Addressed, of course, to our wonderful Canadian music columnist, Brittney from Young Rivals currently touring with Hollerado. (click on the postcards for easier reading)

Unfortunately, our beloved hyperactive band Gobble Gobble is no more but they kindly gave birth to Born Gold . They just released Alabaster Bodyworlds as a teaser for all Ex-Gobble Gobble fans and the full album comes out September 20th. This track seems more calm but still has the heavily synth-ed exotic dance beats that we are all used to from GG. Alabaster Bodyworld s makes me want to dance uncontrollably on my kitchen table until the pause at 2:15, creating a flawless ending. Its pretty wild. Download: Born [...]

Montreal indie rockers, Winter Gloves, recently announced that they're going to be touring with New Zealand's The Naked and Famous this summer. The tour includes a show in Toronto on August 9th at Lee's Palace. Winter Gloves' latest release was a three-song EP entitled "Heart Out" released back in March. I've had " Dancing My Heart Out " on repeat for the past couple of months. I just can't seem to get enough of this one song! If you haven't given the EP a listen yet, I would highly recommend getting you hands on a copy of it. [...]

2011 is turning into a real globe trotting year for the Devil. So far there have been features on the music scenes of Newcastle and Christchurch and tonight's post takes a trip across the Atlantic for a peak at the Montreal scene with 6 bands you really need to hear as suggested by baebelmusic . Valleys Beautiful is a word that is far too easily thrown [...]
The sea is a bit choppy, but the end result is charming nonetheless.

(Photo by Ryan Marr) If used properly, the element of surprise can be a band's path to success. Forest City Lovers know how to take a song for interesting and unexpected turns, and how to vary their sound enough to keep listeners guessing in a totally fun way. Their newest album, Carriage , is the band's third full-length, and if the first few singles are any indication, it's sure to be an interesting indie-pop ride. There are chord changes and instruments galore, all used to keep the rhythm steady and slightly unpredictable. But even when [...]
Besnard Lakes ::: photo by Brittney Bush Bollay "Don't put those in!" the woman to my right admonished as I reached for my earplugs. "Just listen and let your mind be blown." Her eyes displayed such an intensity of conviction that I felt compelled to obey, and tucked the plastic case back into my pocket. Despite the [...]
This Vancouver based duo, The Zolas , call themselves a progressive piano rock band. They have some fun tunes that resemble what Ben Folds would be like if they were capable of happiness. You're too cool covers a lot of bases going from waltz time, to a slow chorus of sorts, to a little piano jam, and back to waltz time. It is a really [...]

Vancouver's Mother Mother made a stop at Canteen's Bands Undone on December 11th. They were in Ottawa for a show opening up for Matthew Good. So they were gracious enough to come by Canteen and sing three songs and answer some questions. The turnout for this session was great. It was a nice side of the band to go all acoustic with their music. The songs they sang were: O My ♥ Body Of Years [...]
MUSIC NEWS - Canadian/NYC new wavers, METRIC come back on April 14 with new music, an album called FANTASIES , the follow up to their 2005 highly acclaimed Live It Out (buy cd here ). Written by the band in a farmhouse outside Seattle and by frontwoman Emily Haines while on a soul-cleansing sojourn to Argentina, Fantasies is a densely textured modern mix of psychedelia, electro, and rock with a "really big and really dreamy" sound, says guitarist/co-founder Jimmy Shaw. Haines adds, "For me, the major influences on the record [...]
Bad Flirt is a band that I just noticed this year. I first saw them in August where they played a show and I just happened to be there for their last two songs. Thank lovely friend for being late. And saw them again on December 3, 2008 Members of the band are Jasamine White-Gluz, Evan Dubinsky, Laura Lloyd, Nick Knowles and Raf De La Durantaye and from Montreal. They are young, fresh and fun. On October 28, 2008 they just released their first full length album called Virgin Talk. [...]

I decided on a spur of the moment and watch Stars play the 2nd night show in Ottawa. I didn't go for the first sold out show because I went to see Two Hours Traffic instead. Even more photos on WGTS with Think About Life too. The second night wasn't packed or totally sold out because mostly alot of people went to the first night and probably didn't want to see them again. It was more a laid back and [...]
Once again Matthew at I(Heart)Music has conducted his annual poll of Canadian bloggers for their top ten hottest artist/bands of the year and again I've happily participated. I found it more difficult this year to compile a list although not because of a lack of Canadian talent - on the contrary there's an abundance of talent to choose from. My definition of 'hottest' is not merely a barometer of artists' success/achievements(e.g touring, new release, record label signing) this year but also factors the connection I made to the music whether that be seeing them live [...]
