Helping Those Who Make Us Dance: Up From The Bayou Benefit @ the Canal Room (Wed 10/5/11) "Some people have a hard time explaining rock 'n' roll. I don't think anyone can really explain rock 'n' roll. Maybe Pete Townshend, but that's okay. Rock 'n' roll is a lifestyle and a way of thinking... and it's not about money and popularity. Although, some money would be nice. But it's a voice that says, 'Here I am... and fuck you if you can't understand me.' And one of these people is gonna save the world. [...]

by molly sha This has to be one of the more ingenious marketing angles I've seen in a while, mainly because it came from a fake David Byrne email address. Fake David Byrne doesn't have horrible taste. Although a bit too reminiscent of Animal Collective, Hidden Colors offer up some soothing and melodic sounds which you can check out here . I'm personally tired of this Oates cover epidemic but there's a link to the event below as well: [...]

Last Thursday we made our way to the Canal Room to check out The Postmarks ' CMJ showcase, and we'll tell you this: if you weren't there, you missed out. Put simply, the band delivered a set that transcended their (already fabulous) records, and completely solidified them as a relevant and exciting live act. If you're already a fan of the band (as we are here at HAD), then you may be sitting there telling yourself "well, yes, of course, they're a great band". But then, [...]

Sean Kingston | Canal Room | September 20, 2009 MySpace Music's The RELEASE party took place last night at Canal Room. As the name suggests, the event was in celebration of the upcoming release of an album, Sean Kingston's Tomorrow , which will hit the streets, well, tomorrow, September 22. Kingston didn't work the stage as much as I expected he would. I'm sure he's used to larger stages; however, it was still loads of fun. Of course, with pop hits like "Take You There" and [...]

Recommended Show: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2009 SEAN KINGSTON @ CANAL ROOM 285 West Broadway New York, NY 10013 RSVP , 8PM Can you say guilty pleasure? Okay, so after getting your pop fix with Sean Kingston at the Canal Room (presented by MySpace's The RELEASE), there might be time to check out some of the more indie rock shows going on around the City. But let's be honest, it's the pop shit that's truly awesome, no? Little Joy @ Maxwell's Thursday @ Bowery Ballroom Ty Segall & Golden Triangle @ [...]

Funny stuff happens on facebook. You stalk people, you tell everyone who doesn't care about what you're doing, and sometimes you even find new music! While perusing (nothing more, I swear) the profile of a friend last week (thanks Lauren!) I found a comment on her wall from someone named Sarah Tracey , mentioning her first record release. Being the music geek I am I obviously looked Tracey up online, found her MySpace , and was captivated from the moment she uttered her first sounds on that streaming page. Not to mention her look, which portrays the music [...]

Steel Panther unleashed their lesson in (hair) metal to the audience of the Canal Room in New York City last night. The band's set which was a variety show of sorts including original songs, covers (Bon Jovi and Guns and Roses, obviously) and comedic stage banter mostly about sex with groupies. Scott Ian who [...]
On Friday night I got to see Meiko perform at The Canal Room. The Canal Room is a fancyish lounge type place. It was a very nice venue actually, and this was my first time there. Drinks are pricey, but they actually lit the stage pretty well, so they get bonus points for that. Up first was Joey Ryan, with a gentle, depressing acoustic set. His songs are well-written and pretty. His singing seems
