Our review of the stellar new collection of Bob Dylan covers in support of Amnesty International.
News that Lil Wayne and some MTV VJs from the 80s all have book deals inspired me to check out what else was on the way. Quite a number of interesting books by and about famous musicians are coming out in the first half of 2012. For me, Gil Scott-Heron's memoirs are a must read and I look forward to Lil Wayne's prison tales. I'm also curious about Johnny Ramone's autobiography, written while he knew was dying. What are you looking forward to reading and what have I missed? Let us know in the comments. [...]

Carly Simon isn't one of those artists that you wouldn't necessarily to admit to liking to but Why is an absolute '80s classic. So it's great that someone's decided to remind of that fact. It's just a bit of shame that this cover by Alpines and Maya Janes Coles kind of misses the mark somewhat. No matter though, because it gives us the opportunity to point out this isn't the first time Miss Coles has got her mitts on Alpines beats, as she remixed their track Cocoon under her dubstep alias Nocturnal Sunshine way way back [...]

UK's pop-noir duo Alpines have joined forces with DJ/producer Maya Jane Coles for a spooksome cover version of Carly Simon 's 1980 hit "Why" . They managed to turn the sunny reggae-lite original into a strictly nocturnal, bass-heavy trip. Expectedly, it's moody and dark, but still quite danceable. There's no word yet on whether the cover will see an official release soon, but for now, in case you're not yet familiar with the duo's work, [...]

Rising night pop duo Alpines returns with Maya Jane Coles to give us their version of Carly Simon 's hit 'Why.' You can listen to the cut below. The South Londoners 73 ' Cocoon ' is available now. Alpines + Maya Jane Coles - Why (Carly Simon) Via - No Modest Bear

The soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever was the first vinyl album I remember owning, a Christmas gift in 1977. I had little interest in music at the time, but I imagine that lots of folks received that album, that Christmas season, from people who knew them well enough to feel compelled to give a gift, yet not well enough to not what the recipient might truly want. I received my copy from from an aunt. (she wasn't some cool, hip, younger aunt, but, rather, an older widow who swore like [...]
![[Introducing] – Pinemarten](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3750134_lg.jpg)
Tweet If there's one thing I learned from Scooby-Doo, it's that we all like a little bit of mystery in our lives. Realistically, I probably didn't learn anything from Scooby-Doo, but that's all water under the bridge. Pinemarten could certainly qualify as a worthy villain for the gang to face. Hidden identity? Check. A devious plan to take over the world? I'm going to say check, because if dressing in a fish suit and using the abandoned boat house to counterfeit lobster creels counts, [...]
"Rainsong" comes to us from Simmerkane II the recent solo debut by Chadwick Stokes , singer/guitarist for the late Dispatch and State Radio as well as dedicated social activist. The ragged and occasionally jammy rock of his earlier bands has been pretty much jettisoned this time around, replaced with an organic, 70's pop earthiness and some songs that would bookend nicely to some 70's vinyl hippie-folk/rock classics. "Rainsong" has shambling pace and nicely turned melody, a mellow Neil-Young-meets-Cat-Stevens vibe perfect for a Laurel Canyon bbq and hash party. And hey isn't that Carly [...]

We are in this period now where we all are trying to be in shape physically and deny ourselves any pleasure. ~ Carly Simon Legendary Weapons - Wu-Tang Clan - Ghostface Killah, AZ and M.O.P - Production on this head banger was done by Brooklyn outfit, The Revelations. It's soulful, bouncy and fun as hell. Enjoy. via Nobody Does it Better - Radiohead - Carly Simon - Really cool cover that maintains much of [...]

'Don't Know Why' by SoundGirl is OUT NOW ON ITUNES . It's a lovely, shimmery, summery retake of the Carly Simon classic 'Why' and it has a lovely, shimmery, summery video shot in Barbados. Have a peek: In the noise of all the new girlbands struggling to establish themselves at the moment, SoundGirl "are the next" Sugababes - a trio of very young girls with more of an air of streetcred about them than their glossy manufactured rivals. We'll be honest, readers - there's not a great deal [...]

Do not miss: Love Tempo at the Buffalo Club in Melbourne (time to check out what all the fuss is about with that place, huh). Returning the party vibe where the focus is on both the dancefloor and your mind, with no ego. It's about you and your feet; no superstar DJ's. Who can't like a party named after the '83 Quando Quango classic on Factory Records . (Cant get enough of 'Carly Simon - Why [Extended 12" Version]' below) Their say: Love [...]
