Lil' Wayne regularly divides opinion amongst hip hop fans. Of course, there's a very healthy contingent who consider him the greatest rapper alive. On the other side of the divide, however, are those people who just can't understand the hype - or simply don't care enough to pay attention. But regardless of whether you're a Weezy lover or hater, make sure you don't miss out on the opportunity to get an inside look into what makes the man tick by watching The Carter - a warts and all, fly on the wall portrait of one of [...]
I'll be honest - I didn't know the Lil Wayne track "Let the Beat Build" before I saw Nyle's version, but I'm certain I'm content having only heard the Nyle remix. My biggest beef with hip-hop music these days is that the beats are all recycled and overproduced and very little of it resembles true organic music anymore. Nyle's live band version of "Let the Beat Build" - complete with vocalists, piano and of course banjo - has all of the raw energy of a stage performance and is totally mesmerizing. Even if you aren't a fan of hip-hop or [...]
The rumor mill has been calling for a new Lil Wayne album for a while now, only catch is that was not going to be a follow up to the hugely successful Tha Carter III. It was gonna be an entire rock album featuring his own guitar riffs and plenty of autotune. Well the rumors can be put to rest as he has released Prom Queen his first single in the "rock" format. To be honest it was so bad it gave me cancer.

When I started Pigeons and Planes, I set out with the intention of making a very balanced blog. As a fan of so many different music genres, I always found it hard to find one spot that covers some of everything. So far, it's been going pretty well. I love being able to post some new Jay-Z , follow it up with a Lykke Li and Bon Iver video, and then hit 'em with a Charles Hamilton freestyle. The site has been growing pretty rapidly, so there must be some [...]

It's that time of year again, when music critics (myself included) scramble to come up with best-of-year lists that bring some sense of order to the dozens of albums they've been buried under for the past 365 days. Blender has dropped it's own list of the Top 33 Albums of 2008 as follows. At #1 was Lil Wayne' s ridiculously overrated Carter III , an album that symbolized the perfect opportunity for critics to embrace him just as the fact of Weezy's rise to mainstream Fall Out Boy status was already flying over [...]

I've already mentioned my incredible dislike for the rapid reissue of recently released albums , so the announcement that rapper/sports blogger Lil Wayne is re-releasing the year's top selling album Tha Carter III was distressing. However, it turns out my fears were unfounded: Lil Wayne is re-releasing Tha Carter III , but with entirely new tracks. How this is going to work, I don't know, but in the World O' Weezy, the line of thinking makes perfect sense: We don't wanna call [...]
