Tough times in life again. More curveballs. And, as ever, my outlet is music, is this website. Just over a year ago, I posted about counterpoints, using Ryan Adams , and I talked about the need to let someone or something go, despite the pain, and you need to trust things to work out... But what happens when you don't let go, but realise that something needs to change? I posted about Cary Brothers almost three years ago - an artist whose first EP, "All The Rage" I loved, but who's first album, [...]

Back in May, we tipped you that the Hotel Café would be curating a stage at this year's Sunset Junction . The lineup was announced today, and it includes a stellar cast of artists who've regularly played the Cahuenga Boulevard room, including Cary Brothers , Butch Walker and the Black Widows , Jim Bianco , HoneyHoney , Buddy and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's favorite local band , the Rescues . Walker, the 41-year-old songwriter, producer and former head honcho of the Marvelous 3, was just signed to [...]
Los Angeles indie singer-songwriter Cary Brothers will support New Zealand artist Brooke Fraser on her entire upcoming U.S. tour scheduled to begin in late April. He will also make an appearance at SXSW next week. Brothers is currently touring in support of his second full-length album, Under Control. Under Control premiered at #1 on the [...]

Just got home after spending the day car hunting (I found one!) and took a little detour through town to check out all the Christmas lights. I don't feel like it's really Christmas until I've ticked that off my list. I wasn't listening to these songs at the time but I'm passing them on to you so you can use them for your own Christmas light tours. Enjoy! Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee [...]
Under Control is beautifully executed richly textured sounds, creamy smooth guitar, gorgeous synth and honeyed vocals.

Price may be a little steep for us to but complete backing behind this show, but she has come to Louisville a number of times over the past few years and has built up a solid fan base. Throw in a new album out recently and this could be a popular ticket. Anyway, now you know. Sara Bareilles w. The Cary Brothers and Holly Conlan Bomhard Theatre November 6 at 8 p.m. [...]

Dear neglected Reader, Wow this took a long time, sorry about that! Life has been hectic since my return to sunny England, but, finally, its all is back to monotony once more. My time of procrastination is over, i have recently made the move up to Manchester, so have been delighting in the Mancunian music scene...something which borders on the epic! On the weekend of the 9th, half of Britains' youth, upped sticks and drove & biked / swam & hiked their way to the Isle of Wight for BBC DJ Rob Da [...]

Cary Brothers' sophomore album "Under Control" has some gems on it — knowing his resumé, they're probably coming to a prime-time TV show near you — but no song quite like the über-ballad "Ghost Town." First-time director Kyle Eaton takes some of the concepts from the song and runs with them in the video, with mixed results. The Hotel Cafe-bred singer-songwriter is zipping back through L.A. on tour; Brothers remains one balladeer I'm a sucker for. ||| Live: Cary Brothers plays the Troubadour on Saturday night supported by Harper Blynn . [Sunset Junction, other Junction functions, shows by legends and a show by Legend, shows in massive amphitheatres and shows by people with egos the size of amphitheatres — what a weekend. When am I going to find time to celebrate Serj Tankian's birthday?] Once through the weekend, real ... slow ... like: Friday highlights: ☛ Crowded House [pictured] plays downtown's Club Nokia behind its [...]
Our MonkeyEatsMonkey friends have been staying really busy filming concert events in Indianapolis. We've been inviting them out to as many MOKB Presents shows as possible, and luckily, they've been up to it! We'll be helping them push out a lot of videos in the upcoming weeks. This performance of Greg Laswell singing " Comes And Goes (In Waves) " is from the July 14th MOKB Presents show at Radio Radio. Stayed tuned for more from Greg Laswell at this show, as well as touring [...]
From his April album Under Control , Cary Brothers does exactly what's required for a classic cover song. Turn it on it's head and then inside out, completely transforming it into something fresh and new -- and, in this case, nearly unrecognizable from the 1985 original. "Something About You" is what is euphemistically referred to as a "one hit wonder", a song that peaked Top 10 in the U.S. and a lone hit for the British electro-pop band Level 42 (an outfit that was hugely popular in the U.K. -- witness their recent 4-CD box set [...]

It has been quite a while since we've seen our bud , and all-around-good dude, Cary Brothers . MOKB Presents will welcome him back to town on July 14th @ 8pm at Radio Radio w/ another Laundromatinee.com fav, Greg Laswell . Buy your tickets now . Cary has a new video, directed by first timer Kyle Eaton , that combines Hitchcock and Japanese monster movies, for his track Ghost Town . [...]

This is not just a cover, it is a reclamation project. Cary Brother 's sweet duet with Dutch-through-LA singer Laura Jensen of Level 42 's "Something About You" is a revelation. The familiarity of the song is not readily apparent. The stripped-down cover brings this tune up from the saccharine depths 80s English pop to become a simple gem. Brothers, who is probably best known for his contribution [...]

It's hard to listen to the music of Cary Brothers without visualizing the television and film protagonists his songs have serenaded — starting, famously, with "Blue Eyes" from his college buddy Zach Braff's 2004 movie "Garden State." Chilling moments of self-realization, hyper-romantic love scenes, startling plot points: Brothers' tunes, for better or for worse (but certainly better for his pocketbook), have oozed from scads of them. ||| Photos by Jeff Koga Which can be a curse when presented with just the tunesmith himself, [...]
