Why does one attend a MUSIC CONCERT if what they really want to do is talk? That's the question I was wondering while attempting to listen to Bradford Cox's mish-mash of covers and assumedly improv sounds on this particular Friday in March. I'm sure he was wondering this as well, as he posed more or less the same question to the audience when he realized he couldn't really even hear himself in the monitors. Once they cranked up the volume the talkers were silenced, at least from where I was, in front with the rest of those [...]

After attending two big music festivals every summer since 2005, it's easy to feel burned out and unmotivated. But you can still have a great time if you just turn off your grouchiness, relax, and float downstream. A mind-blowing headliner helps, too.

Someone remind me why I'm going to the All Points West Festival again? Lollapalooza announced its 2008 lineup yesterday, and 3 of the 4 bands I'm going to APW to see (Radiohead, CSS, and The Go! Team) are playing Lolla as well. The fourth, New Pornographers, is coming to Pittsburgh next week and I'll be there. Anyone want to buy an APW ticket? After the Austin City Limits announces its lineup later this month, I'll be back with a massive post critiquing all the summer music festivals. For now, here's some music from a few bands [...]
As Human Giant says in their "Illusionators" sketch , "Prepare your mind...for a mind EXPLOSION!" Yep, the full and official Lollapalooza lineup is set for announcement at 8am, however as in years past it once again has leaked all over the internet. Once again Chicago Sun-Times music critic Jim DeRogatis played spoiler and rained on Perry's parade by making the announcement-before-the-announ cement. What I'm looking forward to now is the impending war of words and (and maybe fists) that's going to start up between the Lolla founder and the newspaper critic who may have overstepped his bounds. The [...]

Pretty self-explanatory stuff here. The first 13 tracks are from bands I saw (or in Deerhunter's case...heard) at Pitchfork. The last 9 are from acts I saw either at the final Village Voice Siren Festival or at one of the other three shows I caught up in NYC last weekend. Reviews and pictures coming soon. Until then...enjoy the tunes. Slint - Breadcrumb Trail GZA - Liquid Swords Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot (live) [...]
