With nearly a four year gap in between albums, the singer-songwriter known as Cat Power returned with the release of her ninth studio album titled Sun in August of 2012. The album strays away from some of the softer tones heard on previous albums such as Jukebox or The Greatest , taking her in a more experimental direction. The album is also home to some of her best work to date, which can be heard on the newly released video for "Manhattan" below.

This video makes me want to go BACK to NYC where I just was last week. But then again I wanted to go back to NYC before I saw this video. So in actuality I just really want to move to NYC and this video has nothing to do with anything aside from just being a neat video with lot's of scenes showing a place I want to live in. If the Taco Bell workers can afford to live there on $7.25 an hour I should be able to live there right? Oh wait, music blogging COST'S me $7.25 an [...]

Cat Power's music video for "Manhattan" is a wonderful joyous ode to the city as any video for a song titled "Manhattan" should be. Chan Marshall looks like a real fun person to be around. She directed the video along with Greg Hunt . Enjoy it below.

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]

Cat Power pokes fun at herself, specifically her reputation for on-stage meltdowns , in a new sketch for Funny or Die . In the video, written and directed by Alex Fernie, Chan Marshall becomes frustrated after her performances of "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" are not well received from a class of second graders. Thank god for snack time. Kids Songs With Cat Power from Cat Power

Some Real Ramblings For a long time, I've called the Sunday post "Ramblings & Considerations." There was a time when I actually rambled. Today, I will revive that tradition... Cat Power releases a new visual for from their album, Sun . Marshall directs the video herself for “Cherokee,” which is a cross between a small budgeted experimental science a film or a video with a larger meaning. You be the judge.

In her new video for "Cherokee", Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power ) takes inspiration from the recent influx of Zombie-related TV and movies, presenting a tale of laser-wielding survivalists against glowing ghouls. Marshall serves as both director and chief survivalist. "Cherokee" is the lead single off Marshall's Top Star-earning LP Sun , out now via Matador.
