Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Brendon Thorne, Getty Images JERUSALEM (AP) - American musician Cat Power has canceled her show in Israel , joining a list of artists shunning the country over its conflict with the Palestinians . Charlyn Marie Marshall , better known by her stage name Cat Power, was to perform in Tel Aviv on Sunday. But she tweeted on Friday [...]
This April nearly 80,000 people will land near Indio, California once again for a sold out Coachella. To get you prepared and pumped we've made this playlist.
David Ignatius Walsh was the hometown hero, a lion of the pre World War II Boston Irish community. He had served as Governor of Massachusetts followed by five terms in the U.S. Senate, the first Irish Catholic to hold the post. He was a confirmed bachelor, somewhat of a dandy with a penchant for flashy [...]

I'll admit that the first thing that made me listen to Lana Del Ray (real name: Elizabeth Grant) is the fact that, similar to myself, she was from a town in Upstate New York (real upstate, not Westchester). Although large geographically, we have very few big names to claim as our own so I was curious to hear about the girl who was making such a buzz on the cover of Q Magazine and in appearances on SNL. Needless to say the previously mentioned buzz was for a reason. Del Ray's voice [...]
As I mentioned earlier in the month, the Dirty Three have a new LP dropping in February. My copy has been on repeat, but revisiting the Melbourne trio's last output - 20052s Cinder - I was reminded how I used to imagine what the album's cornerstone track, "Great Waves," would sound like with Will Oldham [...]

This morning we mentioned some upcoming releases we're excited about, but not every band has their plans set in stone. Some are more vague, intentional or not, about their current projects, leaving us to speculate about whether they'll make good on a promise for a record in 2012, or whether they'll just surprise us with a stellar album. Here are some bands we're (*fingers crossed*) expecting/hoping for albums from this year. Sometime in 2012 [...]

When you compile a list like this, you start to tremble at how much you're really going to absorb in the ensuing months. This doesn't even cover the misses and surprises. If you're a casual listener, you might get through an album a day. Okay, maybe two. If you're a fanatic, you're spinning discographies left and right. Still, after 365 days, either person is buzzing. One's just a little louder with the phonetics. As I wrote back in December, in a year, you'll have your next roundup of favorite albums. You'll have a new favorite song. You might [...]

Cat Power and boxing may seem an odd pairing at first, but recent video collaboration between Chan Marshall's music and Manny Pacquiao's fists feels quite right. In it Marshall takes another stab at her 1996 song "King Rides By" sprucing it up with reverb sprung guitars while Pacquiao's stunning precision is displayed in slow motion. [...]

Yhdysvaltalaismuusikko Chan Marshall eli Cat Power saapuu lähes 20 vuoden odotuksen päätteeksi viimeinkin Suomeen. Nykypäivän arvostetuimpiin vaihtoehtoartisteihin lukeutuva Marshall esiintyy yhtyeensä kanssa Helsingin The Circuksessa sunnuntaina 5. helmikuuta. Uransa alkuvuosina Cat Power tuli tunnetuksi kokeellisista folkia ja alternative-musiikkia yhdistelleistä lo-fi-albumeista, joita artisti äänitti yhteistyössä esimerkiksi Sonic Youthista tuttujen muusikoiden kanssa. Marshall saavutti laajempaa huomiota hieman helpommin lähestyttävän You Are Free -pitkäsoiton (2003) myötä. Cat Powerin suuri läpimurto tapahtui vuoden 2006 The Greatest -albumilla, jolla Marshallin kanssa musisoivat pitkän linjan memphisläiset blues- ja R&B-muusikot.
Just a few days ago, I would have thought that Cat Power and boxing would be a pretty unlikely pairing. Well now Chan Marshall, who has been pretty quiet over the past few years, has just released a new version of 1996's "King Rides By," accompanied by a Giovanni Ribisi-filmed video featuring a slow motion, up-close visit with Manny Pacquiao that should tickle the fancy of any boxing voyeur. The new seven-minute version has expanded upon the original not only in length, but also in depth. Cat Power traded her bare-bones acoustic for an electric, rippling reverb and punching [...]

Frank Yang Most bands that name themselves for prehistoric entities - your Mastadons, your Dinosaur Jrs - seem to do so at least a little for the heavy and/or primal connotations that come with it. Not so much for Brooklyn's Caveman , who seem to have chosen the name ironically as there's nothing raw or neolithic about their smooth and polished debut album Coco Beware . Rather than club you about the head with a bone, Caveman makes an impression with shimmering guitars, floaty synths and tight harmonies delivering [...]

I recently read that Cat Power's inspiration for her upcoming album is her disappointment for everything she's done recently. Mainly the fact that she hadn't been playing every instrument, that she was just "holding a microphone". Perhaps to reconnect with an old muse Marshall recently released a re-recorded version of "King Rides By" off her 2006 album What Would The Community Think for The Festival of Children Foundation and The Ali Forney Center . The track is a long and daunting 7 minute track that finds the listener mesmerized through repetition. As [...]

Here are some words we haven't strung together in a long time: new music from Cat Power ! We've got to temper that a little bit though – "King Rides By," which you can stream right now (along with its accompanying video starring Manny Pacquiao as a tireless slow-motion boxer), is an updated new version of one of the highlights on Chan Marshall's 1996 release What Would the Community Think . We like this new take though – with that creepy echo effect on her [...]

Chan Marshall delivers a seven-minute visual for a new version of (originally from her '96 album What Would the Community Think) 'Kings Ride By.' The video was directed by Giovanni Ribisi and features Manny Pacquiao. Not a bad track to listen to while hitting the speed bag if you ask us. Expect a new Lp in the upcoming year, yes you can get excited now cause according to Matador Records.... it's actually going to happen!
