When I heard that the Drive-By Truckers were playing back-to-back nights at Buster's in Lexington, I immediately told my boss at the record store to try to get them for an instore. The ship, if you will, has all the bands on board now and the last to arrive, fashionably late, is none other than THE SMASHING PUMPKINS !  They will be headlining Saturday night (July 10th) of the festival (right after DEVO...can you imagine?).  Going 90's super-band rounds out a perfectly balanced festival.  Friday you have your jam bands with a folky-country rock flavor (Widespread/Drive-by Truckers/Lucero).  Saturday you have a blast from the past with The Smashing Pumpkins, DEVO, Cake and Cap'n Jazz (with a bunch of great indie bands including Wax Fang).  Then close everything [...]

You all know about my love/hate relationship with Of Montreal , but it has to be more on the Love side of things because I went to Lexington to see them at Buster's on Thursday night.  There were a lot of people there, but it was a relatively low key show and I liked that.  Maybe Lexington is better at handling their booze, but of Montreal got their whole attention and it made for one of the more enjoyable of Montreal's shows I've seen of late.  They still didn't play anything pre- Satanic [...]

Wussy stopped into CD Central in Lexington as part of Boomslang's activities on Saturday afternoon.  They played as a two piece (the bass player and drummer couldn't make it), but Lisa and Chuck performed to a full room of adoring fans who were thrilled to have the chance to see them intimately like this.  The day was a lot of fun and Matt Jordan even grilled hot dogs and veggie dogs for all those who came courtesy of CD Central.  [...]

Is there any band more eternally hip than Stereolab ?  I mean, you never hear hipsters bitching about how lame Stereolab is.  It's just kind of an accepted fact that they're untouchable. Stereolab - Neon Beanbag "Neon Beanbag" comes from Stereolab's first album of new material since 2006's EP collection, Fab Four Suture .  Chemical Chords will be released on the equally legendary 4AD label on August 19th.
