(Please watch the video above before reading) It was really quite something. To be able to walk around Central Park, and allow your experience to be soundtracked based on your location. Beautiful strings washed over you near the tall trees and luxurious apartment views by The Lake. You could hear boat [...]

Friendly Fires at Central Park Summerstage (08/07/11) Photo : Jon Klemm UK electrodance trio Friendly Fires return to NYC on Wednesday night ( Oct 26 ) to play their biggest (non-free) show yet at Terminal 5 with Theophilus London ( Buy Tickets ). Friendly Fires have been on tour pretty much non-stop ever since the release of their most recent album Pala , which came out in May via XL Recordings. After NYC, they'll play a final North American [...]
"I remember finding this painting that a relative of mine did of the park. A relative I had never met. And I remember thinking, we're essentially doing the same thing. That's what he made. That is what he saw was beautiful and was inspired to create, pulling inspiration from the same place... I hope what [...]
Steve Jobs has passed but his genius will continue to spawn more genius. Washington-DC based Bluebrain is proof of that. Brothers Hays and Ryan Holladay have created something most would say is "revolutionary" but what others would simply call "magic". Their latest release isn't a CD or even straight digital album but rather an app. And you can't listen to it in your car, in your mom's room. Only in Central Park. The album is a location based record entitled Centr...
We haven't heard anything strong from the new album, but we are not dismaying it just yet. Her debut was packed with good songs, so we hope she hasn't jumped the Ameriie way on this one. The second disc drops December 6th, 2011 and is called The MF Life . The Black Eyed Peas are true to their word. When a lightning storm canceled their June gig in Central Park , the BEP came back as promised to perform a free live show for 60,000 fans in the Great Lawn. The weather in New York City last Friday evening was clear of lightning — though the group wasn't lucky enough to finish their set before it started to rain. "Aint nothing wrong with a little bit of rain," quipped will.i.am, proving that the Peas are anything but RIP . Catch highlights from their performance below. [...]

[Photo courtesy of wagz2it ] Whereas the previous evening we saw the damp weather held at bay, for Wilco's second night at Central Park's Summerstage the band and attendees weren't quite as lucky. All parties took it in stride and the crowd, despite the rain or maybe because of it, seemed particularly enthusiastic. Once again pulling a lion's share of tracks from the new album, The Whole Love ( which has its official release today ), we were also treated to crowd-pleasers "Passenger Side", "Impossible Germany" and "Heavy Metal Drummer", and wonderful takes [...]

Ray Lamontagne Ray Lamontagne has three kinds of songs: sad songs, really sad songs, and excruciatingly sad songs. A few hours after his wrenching performance at the Central Park Summerstage last night, I flipped on the season premiere of The Office to see a pregnant Pam sobbing as she listens to "Trouble," the title track from his 2004 debut. (His songs have also appeared in the tearjerkers Rescue Me and Grey's Anatomy .) Lamontagne is an old-fashioned singer songwriter, the kind of acoustic strummer you might [...]

It had been over 8 years since the last time I saw Wilco in Central Park. Back in June of '03 they co-headlined there with Sonic Youth as part of their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot tour. I've seen them about a dozen times since and they have steadily evolved into one of the best live acts on the touring circuit (imo). I went back for more on Friday night (9/23). It was drizzling when I walked into the park, and in an effort to fit in as much as possible before [...]

Wilco brings a theatrical flair to their grounded American rock stories. The weather was perfect for Wilco's first sold out night at Central Park. Rich lighting accompanied hanging paper ornaments with a montage playing in the background. The band has a rich dynamic and a no frills approach that is much greater than the sum [...]

Wilco is playing a concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion right now and it's being webcast live by NPR Music . The band played New York City on Thursday and Friday night and we had some folks at the show willing to brave the weather to bring us this review and amazing photoset. Read on for the show recap with words by Nicole Perskie and photos by Nick Irving... With a new album on the horizon and in the midst of their fall tour, Wilco rocked a sold out [...]

[photo courtesy of Scott at HippiesAreDead ] If there's a band we hope that people associate with what nyctaper stands for, its Wilco . They have appeared so many times on this site that its often difficult to invent new superlatives to describe the Wilco concert experience. Last night at Summerstage, the band again delivered to its fans another epic NYC show, on par with the legendary Irving Plaza or Hammerstein or McCarren Pool shows of previous years. On tour in support of their latest release, [...]

Last night we stopped in at Rumsey Playfield to catch the first of Wilco 's two nights in New York. The band is helping to close out the final days of the year at the Central Park venue, and despite predicted rain, the evening managed to go off without any serious interference from the weather. Alongside the band was legendary musician and producer Nick Lowe . The band recently covered Lowe's "I Love My Label" as a B-Side to "I Might", and apparently dug doing so enough that they decided to bring him along for [...]

By Michel R Dussack Panic! at the Disco kicked off their fall tour in support of their album "Vices & Virtues" on September 1st at Rusmey Playfield at New York's Central Park . "Vices & Virtues" made a spectacular chart entry upon its release earlier this year, and Panic! at the Disco has been touring pretty much nonstop since, with major North American and UK tours, as well as appearances at an array of summer music festivals. On this fall tour,...

"sad to report that, due to the imminent approach of Hurricane Irene, we are exercising discretion as the better part of valor and preemptively canceling the Sunday, August 28th Central Park show. Again, the Sunday, August 28 Jagged Edge, Avant and Melanie Fiona show at Central Park is now CANCELED due to Hurricane Irene." That would have been the final free show at Central Park Summerstage this summer. Six more chances to pay to go there (aka Rumsey Playfield) in September. When a lightning storm forced the Black Eyed Peas to cancel their Central Park concert back in June , it seemed all the incliment weather didn't stop the party after all — it only postponed it. Today, along side New York City's Mayor Bloomberg, will.i.am announced that fans will finally get to have the time of their lives on Friday, September 30. Jump below for more details from the fashionable pop star. Is it just us or does the [...]

Friendly Fires frontman Ed MacFarlane Fresh off the stages of Lollapalooza, Friendly Fires , Cults and The Naked and The Famous took New York's famed Central Park by storm on Sunday afternoon. It was no surprise that the park's Rumsey Playfield would reach capacity early in the afternoon with this impressive line-up, regardless of the scorching heat. Cults and The Naked and The Famous lent excellent supporting sets before Friendly Fires incited their typical fare of [...]
