Dan Marshall and his studio Size Five Games are one of the most prominent indie developers in the United Kingdom. Having achieved critical success with their point-and-click adventure titles Ben There, Dan That and Time Gentlemen, Please!, the studio has now received recognition of their work from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, who awarded the studio a BAFTA Children's Award for the game Privates last Sunday. Privates was commissioned by Channel 4 Education as an innovative means of exploring the message of sex education through the medium [...]
As we head into the home stretch of 2011, two albums that we expect to make the litany of Best Of lists that will be hitting the interwebs in the next few weeks are Ashes & Fire and A Creature I Don't Know the latest records from Ryan Adams and Laura Marling respectively. The pair of singer-songwriters recently appeared on an episode of Live From Abbey Road , where Adams confessed that he scrapped 80% of his most recent album after hearing Marling's sophomore effort [...]

Ryan Adams returned this year with the solid Ashes & Fire. In the record's promotional campaign he was keen to point out that when listening to Laura Marling's new album during the writing of his own, he realised he needed to start again. It was a twist of clever programming then that brought the two together for Channel 42s Live at Abbey Road. Broadcast yesterday evening the show featured this, a beautiful rendition of Adams' Oh My Sweet Carolina with Marling providing the haunting backing vocal. It's a special moment for two artists that are obviously [...]

It's a sign of how quickly Lana Del Ray's short career is moving that when prompted to perform the customary cover of "one of their favourite all-time tracks" on Channel 42s series of new music shows, Bombay Bicycle Club chose this young lady, one of the most talked about pop stars of the year. It's a faithful rendition, with plucked acoustic guitar replacing the swathes of strings on the original. Jack Steadman's voice sounds brilliant and is complimented by an unnamed female singer. It was recorded as part of the current On Track with SEAT series [...]
In our eyes The Horrors can pretty much do no wrong at the moment so it's no surprise that we think this, a cover of the Ziggy-era David Bowie classic Suffragette City , recorded for Channel 4, is rather good. It's absolutely booming. Check out the video below. DOWNLOAD - The Horrors - Suffragette City (David Bowie Cover) VIDEO

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs(T.E.E.D) is an emerging leader in EDM. With a full length album on the horizon, I couldn't be more thrilled to have come across this piece about one of my favorite producers at the moment. An electric live performer with a downtempo personality, his production and performance have been receiving plenty of praise. I hope that you check out this video simply because it is more than enlightening. This short video take a look inside the mind of an inspirational artist to elucidate this producer and performer's desire to remain undefined by genres. It seems that if [...]

Mount Kimbie - Before I Moved Off (Abbie Road Debuts recording) ( mp3 ) Pilt ajakirja Clash [...]

Channel 42s Sounds From the Cities: Edinburgh aired recently (and can be watched again here , for the next week) and it was a programme I was really in two minds about. I hoped it would be really good, and feared it might be truly horrible. A show about music in Edinburgh really could have been awesome, the kind of drive and energy it takes to make things happen here would have made for some very interesting stories, I think. Then when bits of Twitter information and so on started to seep through and I heard talk [...]

Channel 4, February 10th, 00.10. Pen this date and time in your diary, sky plus it, tivo it, record it or whatever you want to do, just don't miss it. The brand new series of Topman CTRL MX is just around the corner and the first episode is going to be a barnstormer. Not giving too much away from the filming, but the acts really turn it on for this gig. Presented by Huw Stevens, it's set in a grimy East London venue that looks so unfit for television that it works perfectly. [...]
Making the long journey up to the top floor of Topman on Oxford Street - a journey of countless escalators - gave me pause enough to think that this was a fairly odd place to be conducting an interview. As usual, the place was full to the brim with shoppers and had loud music thumping overhead. That is, I suppose, unless it's an interview regarding a Topman associated event in which case it makes perfect sense. So here I was, in the relative calm that is the Style Lounge, meeting (probably) the nicest man in radio. [...]

Hotcakes favourite Topman CTRL is back, with a twist. Their brand new TV show, Topman CTRL MX, is appearing on Channel 4 with a series of live performances across February. In the past, we have teamed up to bring you t-shirts by Professor Green and Filthy Dukes, a signed copy of The Charlatans new album and tell you all about Topman CTRL's free 2010 tour. Well, they return with a 6 part instalment of live shows every Thursday on Channel 4 from 10th February. The shows are going to boast the likes of Miles Kane, The Vaccines, [...]
